Whoops. Fell out of my reading habit. πŸ˜… But found this on my shelf having never read it, and drawn to it as various people compared it to Silent Hill - a comparison that, I think, only extends to its setting; it's more sci-fi/mystery/Lovecraft, but nonetheless a fun ride as a cosy thriller-spook. 😁

Book 5! Another break-neck compulsive read. Gibson's prose is condensed and poetic, and it demands your attention, good memory, and detective skills; I got lost pretty frequently, especially with its 3 plotlines. I'll benefit from a reread to more fully absorb its themes but it was a fun ride!

Book 4! This is an extraordinary feat of imagination. But it is challenging. It's pure "show, don't tell", it moves at breakneck speed, and demands much of your intuition and attention to decipher it, but what a brilliant ride with much to consider about technology, humanity, and deus ex machina.

Book 3: Enticed by this with its focus on language, words, and translation, it's actually a very compelling portrait of people living within systemic racism (and how poisonous it is for everyone), the self-defeating nature of colonialism, and the power and necessity of protest. Enjoyed it! 😁

Film poster for Bon AppΓ©tit by Ilirian Bushi with me, Ray Murphy, and Glenn Maltman accredited beneath the title. In the background is a teal-filtered close-up image of a hand posed to lift the lid on a red cooking pot. At the top are various laurels showing the various festivals at which this short film has currently appeared, with the latest addition indicating it's an Official Selection at the Romford Horror Festival this year.

Such a thrill to see Bon Appétit has been selected to show at the Romford Horror Festival at 11am on 27 Feb and 1 Mar! 😁

I lent my voice as the Culinary Artist in this evocative and delectable short by Ilirian Bushi, with a delicious soundtrack crafted by the wondrous @composerglenn.bsky.social!

Book 2.

And my second Murakami book!

I loved this technological-Jungian-modern fairytale. I was hooked for huge portions of it, and came away rather moved by its portrayal of the nature of consciousness, mortality, immortality, and not acceptance per se, but the decision to accept.

My first book of 2025 (as I renurture my reading habit!).

I liked it. Interesting study of having the main character's psychology paint his perception of the outside world. Also the troubling and knotty moral implications and casuistry...

Loved the monologues, especially Porfiry Petrovich's. 😁

It was enormous fun being a part of this short film - which is on its way to being rather decorated! - and the wondrous @composerglenn.bsky.social's immaculate and soaring score is thoroughly delectable! πŸ·πŸ‘πŸ»

One of many fantastic shorts created by the multifaceted fantastic filmmaker Ilirian Bushi!

How remiss of me not to do a quick Bluesky intro post! πŸ˜…

Hi! I'm Ray. I'm an actor with a particular flair for classics and period pieces, and I often remind people of Jeremy Irons. πŸ˜†

I love gaming (mostly RPG and horrors), words and language, pets, myths, and I'm a Tarot reader too! πŸ§™

Remembrance Day always feels special to me; three times I played "Uncle" Osborne in Theatre Reviva!'s productions of RC Sherriff's JOURNEY'S END and the impact it had on our audiences astonished and moved me every time. The bravery of those men and the horrors they went through can't be overstated.

I enjoyed NT's 'Nye'. Fun to learn about Bevan near portrayed as a mythical character! And extraordinary to me that something like the NHS which has proved to be demonstrably good was met with such resistance at the time it was proposed. A lesson that applies to many things, methinks...
