This is so good
A few nights back, Bob Weir came to me, ultra vivid, in a dream. He was his older self, as he was close to death. He thanked me for writing the book and then we hugged. I canβt stop thinking about it.

At a punk show at an Elks Lodge in New Jersey. Three-band bill. One of the openers, Ravens (ft. mems of Texas Is The Reason and Jets to Brazil), covered βNew Speedway Boogie.β Made me so happy. This is what itβs always been about.
Sitrep from the full run. Garcia pulls the plug on the Deadβs opening acoustic set after two songs due to technical difficulties: βWeβre coming back with something different. This donβt work tonight.β Crowd reactions are kinda bummed but ultimately seem to understand. relisten.net/grateful-dea...
I mean, yeah, incredible show from an incredible year in Dead.
Iβd think most of that October β74 Winterland footage has now aired? But Iβm not 100% for certain. @bourgwick.bsky.social might know!
at the suggestion of @thebanderson.bsky.social i listened to this show whilst having a root canal done yesterday. it was the perfect choice- a relaxing acoustic set, with an incredible standalone "rider", and then a smoking electric set. almost fell asleep, so relaxed. oh- they gave me valium too
Yepβwhat Jesse said!
Sitrep from the full run. Box of Rain enters the chat. Garcia on piano, Lesh on acoustic guitar, and David Nelson and David Torbert on electric guitar and bass, respectively. Beauty. relisten.net/grateful-dea...

POV: You're at the 8/5/74 Dead show but you took a heroic dose and time keeps jumping
True freak dedication!

The song snippets are short but this is a neat (disjointed!) historic document. A few screengrabs. To my eye, part of the Wall is only visible for a split second; a few speaker stacks caught in a camera flash (first image). Garcia, Weir, Lesh, Godchauxs all present. Thanks to whoever filmed this!

There isnβt a *ton* of footage of β74 Dead, so this is exciting: Newly unearthed Philadelphia 8/5/74 film drops today on YT. 16mm reel discovered/purchased on eBay, pro scanned in HQ & synced to show audio. Do never-before-seen moving images of the Wall await? m.youtube.com/watch?v=xNT3...
Can we give this man a knighthood?
Many, many others deserve(d) to be knighted for already completing the full run. Iβm not the first and am only standing on the shoulders of giants. But the chronological listen has been incredibly rewarding so far. Iβd recommend anyone go for it! Just be ready to settle in for a years-long journey.
Yessss

This yearβs Dead Studies conference was so special. Iβm grateful for this community now more than ever. Like a Dead show, there are familiar faces and new ones, all making the pilgrimage to participate in a temporary utopia, before scattering to the winds. Until the next one.
Now, reentry.
