A few nights back, Bob Weir came to me, ultra vivid, in a dream. He was his older self, as he was close to death. He thanked me for writing the book and then we hugged. I can’t stop thinking about it.

At a punk show at an Elks Lodge in New Jersey. Three-band bill. One of the openers, Ravens (ft. mems of Texas Is The Reason and Jets to Brazil), covered β€œNew Speedway Boogie.” Made me so happy. This is what it’s always been about.

banter | 1970-09-18 | Grateful Dead | Relisten Fillmore East New York, NY, USA

Sitrep from the full run. Garcia pulls the plug on the Dead’s opening acoustic set after two songs due to technical difficulties: β€œWe’re coming back with something different. This don’t work tonight.” Crowd reactions are kinda bummed but ultimately seem to understand. relisten.net/grateful-dea...

I’d think most of that October β€˜74 Winterland footage has now aired? But I’m not 100% for certain. @bourgwick.bsky.social might know!

at the suggestion of @thebanderson.bsky.social i listened to this show whilst having a root canal done yesterday. it was the perfect choice- a relaxing acoustic set, with an incredible standalone "rider", and then a smoking electric set. almost fell asleep, so relaxed. oh- they gave me valium too

The song snippets are short but this is a neat (disjointed!) historic document. A few screengrabs. To my eye, part of the Wall is only visible for a split second; a few speaker stacks caught in a camera flash (first image). Garcia, Weir, Lesh, Godchauxs all present. Thanks to whoever filmed this!

Can we give this man a knighthood?

03.03.2026 15:53 πŸ‘ 8 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Many, many others deserve(d) to be knighted for already completing the full run. I’m not the first and am only standing on the shoulders of giants. But the chronological listen has been incredibly rewarding so far. I’d recommend anyone go for it! Just be ready to settle in for a years-long journey.

This year’s Dead Studies conference was so special. I’m grateful for this community now more than ever. Like a Dead show, there are familiar faces and new ones, all making the pilgrimage to participate in a temporary utopia, before scattering to the winds. Until the next one.

Now, reentry.
