There are so many books I wish I read in school. Catching up with my kids.
I just got to the part of Animal Farm where Napoleon blames Joe Biden for everything that has or could go wrong.

The week before the first strikes on Iran, 27% of Americans approved of doing so. Trump's net approval rating is currently -19.

I assume so! (I haven't even thought to ask because I think this is standard.) I will check though!
My goodness. Thank you! And happy pre-, pre-birthday!
Thank you! I think you will like it!
I really appreciated Disobedient Women, about women who fought church abuse from the inside. Having gotten to talk to Sarah a bit about this book, I'm excited to read her coverage of women who've left.
EXCLUSIVE: At more than 30 installations, U.S. commanders told troops the war on Iran is a Christian war.
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation has been βinundatedβ with more than 110 complaints.
One NCO said they were told the U.S. war is to bring about Armageddon and the return of Jesusβ¦
Thank you! I have spent all these years interviewing women about religion in my reporting, so I kept getting reinforcement that I had the idea right and just had to try again.
Sarah Stankorbβs DAMNED IF SHE DOES, coming next September. π₯π₯π₯
If you are interested, the link to preorder is up! (Preorders are *REALLY* important to an author... from telling the industry this topic matters, to encouraging library orders, to showing retailers this is a book to recommend.) www.broadleafbooks.com/store/produc...
In some ways, Iβve been working on Damned If She Does for over a decade. In other ways, itβs been longerβall the way back to when I was a teenager crying on the floor of my dorm room because I couldnβt feel God as I read and reread my Bible.

My very smart kid is learning US history and just last night was describing the very uncanny parallels between our time and the Gilded Age. Last time, it took two world wars to reset. Those words hung in the air like dread. Now, today's news
Historians, friends abroad, what can Americans do now?
"To its audience, Johnny MAGA looked like an independent voice, another outraged supporter in the MAGA media ecosystem... Johnny MAGA appears to actually be a White House staffer named Garrett Wade."

Doctors say that vaccines are the best way to protect children against measles. A guy who eats dogs and snorts cocaine off toilet seats says they should just swim in untreated sewage water instead. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.
The article is full of locations. Grateful for how bravely @wired.com www.wired.com/story/ice-ex...
is within walking distance to at least six churches, a mosque, one synagogue, and a Salvation Army adult rehab center. Several planned ICE office spaces are located near schools and early-childhood care centers."
In Tennessee, OPLA is planning to move into the Nashville House office building, a business center in the city near multiple churches. The One City Center building in Portland, Maine, where ICE plans to expand its offices...
"That often includes places of worship. In Hyattsville, Maryland, ICE is expanding its offices at the Metro 1 building on 6505 Belcrest Road, which sits a few blocks from a Lutheran church...
"In numerous emails and memorandums viewed by WIRED, DHS asked GSA explicitly to disregard usual government lease procurement procedures and even hide lease listings due to βnational security concernsβ in an effort to support ICEβs immigration enforcement activities across the US."
The empirical evidence supports this claim. Back in 2019 @profsamperry.bsky.social & I showed Americans who embrace Christian nationalism hold much stronger patriarchal views. This relationship holds across religious traditions--incl. more egalitarian groups.

Thank you for posting this too! I am always grateful for your work tracing the data behind all this!
Iβve seen an influx of new followers. I will randomly select three winners from those who have followed me on socials or subscribed on Substack since last Wed through this Wed, in a drawing for a signed paperback copy of Disobedient Women.
If you need it, my Substack is sarahstankorb.substack.com.
I have been reporting on this beat for well over a decade now. What I need Americans to understand is that Christian patriarchy is the logical, necessary, localized application of Christian nationalism.

Never heard of Doug Wilson before he preached at the Pentagon? Color me jealous. There is a natural progression of fundamentalism, patriarchy and Christian nationalism that culminates with him.
I write about women who defied him and others like him.

Watch @bradleyonishi.bsky.social connect the dots between Christian nationalism and the way power is applied and twisted in Doug Wilson's world.
I think it's important for the "all government people are corrupt crowd" to really hear this. No. No, they're not.
This is why I'm excited to see some of the laid-off federal employees start to run for office. Americans need to hear from those who've actually done the work of governing.
