I think I just had a typo (i before e except after c) and bluesky thought it was a link… random.

No! He doesn’t suggest meaninglessness, just to be as open as possible in the moment, without pre-existing/normative explanations, just your perceptions. Kind of a restated stoic thing, in the end, though…
So, ok, point taken about the last 100 years and axioms :)
Marcuse then: thought that accepts reality as a given is no thought at all.
Oh right! Math is hard sometimes.
God is dead.
“Bad writing precedes good writing” is my new mantra 😬

This a fabulous teaching aide!
💯 agree. My “ideas” file has often been my most generative, not to mention self-confidence inspiring. Just write. Let all those half forgotten snippets and random connections work their magic.
The neo-liberal “left” be like, but how can we continue to boost corporate profits and growth and do nothing about the ecological crisis *for the people*?
Same. It seems clear that the Capitalocene ends with #degrowth either by design or disaster.
Then, as a polite suggestion, if I may, perhaps check out some #degrowth research. For more actionable than useless platitudes, as you so rightly take exception to.
Surely, what we can do, at the absolute very least, is critique the never ending tidal wave of bullshit.
You think because Trump was elected in the US that we have to settle for meaningless (i.e. doing less good than their escalating harms) corporate wins? Sorry, we might need to agree to disagree there.
Saying that corporations aren’t doing enough isn’t giving up. Quite the opposite. Like, maybe we should stop celebrating capital’s meaningless wins and organize for real change.
Amen. Teaching is my favourite part too.
Haha that gif hits a little close to home 🐸
The simplest way is to make less of it. Its not just the science of CCS that matters here.
*chef’s kiss*
This is very good. Great read. The manufactured sense of helplessness as a justification or impetus for widespread callousness is definitely the point. Also, Star Trek rules.

I have to really try to do my breath-work when someone is super passionate about banning plastic bags to “stop the plastics crisis” in r whatever… Naomi Klein talks about the counter-productiveness of such minor victories in This Changes Everything. We aren’t shopping our way out of this one.
Hi Bluesky! I am an eco-phenomenologist working (finishing up PhD) at the intersection of green capitalism and degrowth. Meaning that I am interested in hegemonic structures of perception that make us think green capitalism is the best we can do, and why degrowth is more compelling than you think.
