HAMNET audiobook by Maggie O’Farrell, read by Ell Potter

I expected to love this one because I loved O’Farrell’s memoir, and yep, I did! Even if you’ve seen the film, the nov has more to offer you, and her language is very easy to lose oneself in.

MARTYR! audiobook by Kaveh Akbar, read by Arian Moayed

Solid novel elevated further by excellent narration; I am going to have to reread the last chapter/thirty pages, because I finished it on a walk and the ending confused me due to divided attention.

BROS is a pretty solid queer romcom from the last decade. I really only watch sad queer stories (because I like to cry), so GODS OWN COUNTRY and FREIR FALL are big ones for me.

Old enough to remember watching Snyder hie away to Toronto to escape this administration, so I’m not entirely sure who the β€œwe” is that he’s referencing here.

This is amazing.

When the government kills a crucial report, independent scientists decide to write it anyway and release it outside of government channels.

That’s science serving society, even when our political leaders don’t.

Is he constantly lying? Yes. Can you trust him? Yes. He is all of these things, all the time, says himself he died at 15 and lives In The Zone. The Zone is whatever you think it is, and it’s believable because of Mortensen’s skill in the role. Still waiting on that sequel.

This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.

DEMON COPPERHEAD audiobook by Barbara Kingsolver, read by Charlie Thurston

While I know I would have enjoyed this novel regardless, I’m really glad I listened to it over the course of three months because Thurston’s narration made Demon come alive in a wonderful way.

I can’t remember if this is the first Olds collection I’ve read, but some of these poems struck a hard bell inside my sternum, so it won’t be my last.
