It gets even more annoying when you look at coffee pots - they often have lines for "cups" that are about 150ml each

Could a U.S. visa fee push tech workers to Canada?
@guslockhart.bsky.social isnβt convinced, as U.S. tech workers earn 46% more than Canadians:
"...Canadian graduates have a really strong incentive to move down south and just earn substantially more than they could if they stay here."

The rise of deepfakes is shaking up the digital world.
Our Senior Policy Analyst @guslockhart.bsky.social joined TVOβs The Thread with @namshine.bsky.social to shed light on what role the Canadian government and tech companies should play to keep Canadians safe from online harms.
One thing that will probably go unnoticed in the post-mortem of this election is that the CPC got 3.3 million votes in Ontario while the PCs only got 2.2 million votes earlier this year.
π¨π¦ 2/3 of Canadians see misinformation, hate speech, & other online harms regularly online.

Someone has got to update the Elections Act. No pollster has ever published half of this information during the election period. Let's get real standards and let's actually enforce them. The barrier to entry is lower than ever so we need real disclosures to judge the quality of survey research.
Just be careful what you say in our family group chat - for all we know, Jeffrey Goldberg is already in there
This feels like a pretty deep insight. I get nearly zero AI generated content on any social media platform I use - and I'm not even intentionally avoiding it. Considering how fast Reels/TikTok/Shorts adjust to viewing, it's probably near impossible to report on them without skewing what you see.

From our research @daistmu.bsky.social from last year (from my colleague @guslockhart.bsky.social), surrounding the experience of online hate speech experienced by Canadians - 27% of queer people in Canada has seen online hate speech. Most of any demographic we look at.
And to be very clear - it's not just that they have seen hate speech - they have been personally targetted by hate speech.
My dad gave a history of TMU as a school, and declared he ran out of time to explain anything more specifics related to my work
It always baffles me because the same survey respondents do the same surveys every day without the massive upfront wall of text, but I don't think anyone is worried about the impact that has on their safety and well-being.
Sorry in advance. This is me this week. #WindandTruth
Some research from the last few months! Thereβs a lot of stuff in here, but one of the most interesting things to me is the sharp drop off in Twitter/X use - down from 44% in 2019 to only 33% now. dais.ca/reports/surv...
TORONTO β A new study shows the gender pay gap in Canada's tech sector almost tripled between 2016 and 2021.
Unbelievably cool to see my brother @guslockhart.bsky.social speak to a HoC Committee today on AI in the workplace. The family group chat probably enjoyed the experience more than he did!
