A Turkey Vulture, a very large black/brown bird, with a featherless pink head and white hooked bill. This shot is taken from behind with just the back, neck and head visible, and the head is in profile as the bird turned to the left. The back feathers are darker in their middles and have lighter brown edges giving a wonderful texture to the bird. The head is a wrinkled around the neck, and has a little 'stubble' below and in front of the eye and on its head. The lack of feathers is to help avoid disease from its diet of carrion.

Going from the Great Egret to a Turkey Vulture has a Beauty and the Beast feel to it - but beautiful in their own way too. I love the brown shades in the feather edges. #Birds 🪶 #Photography #BirdPhotography
