I drive a Prius Prime 70 miles a day, purely electric on my commute. I only paid $32k for the car with 500 miles on it. If you can give me an example of a car for the same price and experience or better, I'm all ears.
I have nothing against EVs. I think they are the future for sure. What I'm trying to get at is that things such as PHEVs are not only more efficient compared to any solely ICE vehicles (including diesels), but they are also a great stepping stone to full EV adoption. Not pointless if you ask me

You are using words such as "bet" and "seems" a lot. Are you sure you aren't letting assumptions form your opinion? You don't think the people who designed these things thought about that?
It's not very pointless when I charge at home and work and only ever need to use gas for extended trips. It's a bridge between car types so people can easily learn and get used to EVs.

That's because Hybrid Vehicles (HVs) are different from plug in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). PHEVs usually have a bigger battery that you can plug in and a beefier electric motor so that it can drive purely electric for a certain distance (20-40 miles)
