When life gives you lemurs, donβt attempt to make lemurade. Lemurs are surprisingly powerful for their size, and can become aggressive.
I feel a saga coming onβ¦
The Twentieth Window. Midwinter Eve. Two figures in the snow, high on Pooksdown Hill. Old Fox and the King of Gold. The sun is setting in the west, and lamps are being lit in the windows of the hamlets and villages, festoons of glittering amber across the snow. How is the world, asks Old Fox. In shivers, answers the King, in shivers.

I also want to say thank you to the person who introduced me to the French word 'beaucoup' this year. It means a lot.
Buy a book.
Any book, it doesn't matter which. The one you've been looking forward to, the one with the title that made you laugh, the weighty award-winner you've been meaning to get to. Whatever.
Treat yourself. Step away from it all. In this time of gross ignorance & madness, read something.
One of the many reasons I hate those fraudulent dog buttons is that it is not difficult to communicate with dogs, they make it very easy for dim-witted two legs if we pay attention.
(Person asks brindle greyhound if she wants to go outside, the dog barks sharply and play bows.)

Why spend 9 years of your life writing a children's book? Because children's books are the books that make us readers. They shape us at the deepest levels & they stay with us forever. They're the most important books of all β and kids deserve nothing less than the very best books of all!

Iβve bought a number of books Iβve seen or seen recommended on here. And theyβve all delivered!
Thereβs not enough said about how many awesome kids encyclopaedias there are available now. They basically turned my eldest into a reader and fuelled his curiosity about the world. And theyβre often brilliantly designed in a super readable way. #KidLitUK

How can you help your favorite author without buying their book?
Here are a handful of ideas of things you can do before their book releases:
1. Request that your local library purchase a copy. This can be done in person or often in an online form.
