Some trusts are effective, but so many are not. Thank you @warwickmansell.bsky.social for your piece.
New: Do DfE white paper proposals move England towards blanket academisation, or not? What an almighty mess educationuncovered.co.uk/analysis/do-...
Analysis piece on the academy aspects of yesterdayβs white paper.
Londonβs βworst mass eviction in recent historyβ is underway; hundreds of households across London told to get out of their homes this week by the same landlord, ahead of the renters rights act. The landlord? Billionaire Asif Azizβs Criterion Capital. www.londoncentric.media/p/asif-aziz-...
Just watched Blow the Man Down. Real sense of claustrophobic small town menace. Such a great cast.
The government should review those chosen to draft the new national curriculum because the list has a βdeeply concerning lack of diversityβ, according to an open letter with nearly 100 signatories
Talking yesterday with people about how education in England has become too static for healthy development and about how some of the behaviour issues we see are at heart about children and young people needing to move more and be outdoors more.
βThe combined tuition fees of the entire Question Time panel would not cover my cost for 1 year of uni. Is that fair?β

Itβs absolutely NOT fair. This outrageous scandal must end
Thoughts on this mess.

Agree completely. Two people? Working on the entire English Curriculum? It feels as if the subject is being treated with disdain.
The universities talk a good game of student support services at Open Days, but the reality is very different once the kids get there. I'm sure the huge funding crisis doesn't help.
New: Average pay and pensions packages for CEOs of academy trusts, just outside Englandβs 10 largest, approached Β£300,000 last year

New: Academy trust appears to pay its former chief executive Β£250,000 β for nine monthsβ work

GLF Schoolsβ accounts disclose this top pay figure, even though their longer-serving CEO during 2024-25 left in May last year.
What now? Only 2 people working on the English national curriculum? I don't understand. Why?
You're right to raise eyebrows at this: nowhere can I find who the 'panel of experts' are. Ugh, it's all a facade of 'openess'.
The New Year is a good time for making changes, and weβve decided the time is right to use BlueSky and LinkedIn as our main social media platforms, and to no longer post on X.

Part Two of the teacher professional standards.
I don't honestly see how the DfE and Ofsted remaining on Twitter meets the teacher standards. Surely it's not safeguarding pupils' wellbeing or showing respect for the rights of others? Sorry to go on about it but really? π
Congratulations! Freedom
Good question!
"If the safeguarding principles of professional curiosity and challenge are lost to the white noise of such a zealot-like approach, we have truly lost our way." Hackney safeguarding chair Jim Gamble lambasts DfE's school behaviour ambassador Tom Bennett. chscp.org.uk/wp-content/u...

Londoners, see what would have become of your home and why parts of the capital now look like they do.
Fascinating interview by @jim.londoncentric.media with Chris Marshall on what we can learn from the history of what didnβt happen

A young woman sits on the edge of her bed in a slightly cluttered room decorated with string lights. She is wearing a tank top and shorts and looks pensive or unwell. The text on the image reads "LATEST RESEARCH," "LONG COVID," "SEX SPECIFIC DIFFERENCES," and below the image, "Long COVID patients with ME/CFS show sex-specific immune, hormonal, and neuroinflammatory disruptions, with women exhibiting stronger inflammation, gut dysfunction, cognitive gene changes, and lower testosterone/cortisol." The source is listed as "Shahbaz et al 2025, Cell."
𧡠Important new study out in Cell Reports Medicine (Shahbaz et al. 2025):
π Long Covid with ME/CFS isnβt the same in women and men - biologically.
π And itβs not βfatigue.β Itβs immune, hormonal, and neurological chaos.
Letβs break it down layperson style π
24% of Disabled people avoid using public transport due to accessibility issues.
4.7 million Disabled people live in poverty.
The politicians who make the above stats a reality are choosing to attack the Motability Scheme, instead of the system that locks us out of society.
If youβre an English teacher, please do this. Your views matter & we want them represented in our survey!
My thoughts exactly!
Again, iGCSEs - which aren't available to those in state schools - gain a possible advantage. While I don't disagree with open book (learning quotations is a waste of learning time), this just widens the gap and creates further inequality in an already unfair system.
