There's a new YouTube channel for Chinese learners with short interviews in Mandarin.
If anyone is interested you can look it up ๐

A quick notice for all Japanese learners out there ๐ฏ๐ตโ
The app I'm using for learning Japanese (@bunprosrs.bsky.social) has launched an referral program so you can sign up using my link bunpro.jp/referrals/us... and get an extended free trial (6 weeks)๐
I really recommend it โก๏ธ

Well, now I can say it was definitely worth it :p can't wait for the next year's gathering and to meet again some wonderful people ๐
Same, as a language enthusiast and an introvert it's both super exciting and terrifying haha
It will be my first PG, and you? :)
That would be so fun! Maybe other AI tool has that option? I would defintely use it.
Do you later come back and re-read the stories or learn from the vocabulary list?
How cool! What level were you on when you decided to read it in another language? Did your approach changed with different languages or you read the books in the same way? Like translating unknown words, underlining them etc. ๐
What didn't work with the scenarios?
I did a similar thing but instead of choosing the ending I asked it to finish each story with some sort of a cliffhanger and the story would resume when I asked it to continue. As a beginner in Swedish it worked pretty well. Still don't know the ending though ;P

What's some useful prompts you used for language learning or practice with AI?
Maybe we'll be on the same coach then ๐
Today after I had just finished reading an Italian short story I realized that the feeling I had afterwards was very similar to the one when I recall a dream from last night, I remember what was going on but some events are just blurry and uncertain
Anyone had a similar experience? ๐
#langsky
I did progress in Italian a lot while chatting with a friend from Tรผrkiye who has a higher level than me
It is somewhat less stressing speaking with non natives, they had to learn the same things before and did mistakes as well.
But you have to be extra careful making mistakes not to learn sth wrong
Through languages I can appreciate more deeply the vast number of texts, music, poems. But also when life gets overwhelming it's a great getaway for me. So as long as it is meaningful and it brings joy for me or people around me it's the best thing I could have ever chosen to do.
The feeling of mystery, of solving it and then starting to grasp the meaning is just something I love.
I like how it allows communicating with others. I like to learn how to express feelings and ideas in new ways, how the same things may be different from different backgrounds.
Even though that's a list of the languages I would most likely choose first to learn, it doesn't mean I won't choose different ones that I may need or feel a close connection to.
There are so many of them and it's unrealistic to learn all of them, but I like how it feels to learn new things.
It's a bit late since I posted about it but here is my list
When I was choosing those langs I considered things like family/friends who speak them, general interest, cultural connection (although it could be superficial, it's still worth to try), relation to other interests, uniqueness (subjective)
Well, I'm not sure which languages I'll manage to learn in this life but I would like to learn more about these specifically ๐
The list is based on a few factors, like family/friends, sth that is unique for me in it, relation to my other interests, it's spoken where my ancestors lived (more or less)
It's impressive, also many languages I would love to speak one day! ๐
Do you plan to learn related languages separately? Or as someone who studied and speaks a bunch of similar languages it doesn't really matter that much? ๐
Thanks ๐ I did the same thing based on your screenshot few months back, it was a great idea! I'll look for it as well, I should have it saved somewhere.
Maybe for you it would be good to do a comparison or find out how many motivatiors could get you through the learning phase like having friends who speak the language, it sounds good for you, is it considered difficult etc.
I think @santpolyglot.bsky.social once shared something similar on Twitter ๐ค
That's so true, with some languages I have a superficial connection but other resonate with me because of my other interests which are connected to the language through history, geography etc.
Like I had been learning Old Norse and then Norwegian for a time because of my interest in norse mythology๐
Would you mind sharing it? Let's see how many we may have in common ๐
How do you control the urge not to add another one though? :P
Do you think the list can stay fixed until you learn the languages from the list? Do you have a similar goal for all of them?
You made a good point
I think I'm overthinking it because depending on your approach, methods etc. it's hard to say whether it will work for you or not. I just see it could be detrimental and frustrating for some people but also motivating and refreshing for others.
How about you? Do you use a list?
Still, I think it's not about the destination but the journey and I do love it, that's why I'm doing it, but the whole bucket list and language plans made me think about it. Also can bucket lists make you focus on speedrunning the whole learning process to just add another TL?
What do you think?
I want to learn many languages myself, but seeing how much time it took me to be where I am with Mandarin got me thinking how on earth could I learn the languages I'm most interested in if it can take so long.
about the culture, people, history, yourself etc.) and learning takes time, having a lot of languages on the list and learning all of them to a high level would be really challenging. Of course there's nothing wrong with it, it's life long learning after all and you can dabble a bit in the meantime.
