Across the Amazon, the Congo Basin, and Papua, Indigenous Peoples safeguard some of the most vital forests on Earth, protecting ecosystems and knowledge that sustain the planet.
Their leadership is central to any serious plan to defend forests and keep the 1.5Β°C limit alive.

Stopping deforestation is one of the best things we can do for climate, nature, and people worldwide. But it still doesnβt get the attention or funding it deserves.
And thatβs why we prioritize it in the new Drawdown Explorer.
β’ At current levels, only 4 years left before the carbon budget for 1.5Β°C is exhausted
β’ Past 1.5Β°C, the risk of crossing tipping points increases
β’ Every 0.1Β°C increase = more heatwaves, wildfires, storms, & extreme precipitation with oversized damage to vulnerable communities & indigenous people
βInvesting in adaptation isnβt a luxury or an act of resignation. Itβs a sober act of realism & responsibilityβ. Powerful article from @rupertread.bsky.social on the urgency & transformative potential of #climate adaptationπ

Another dataset confirms that last month was the warmest October on record in the #Arctic. The previous record was 2024. This is already a month with a very large increasing temperature trend (i.e., Arctic amplification). Not good.

More than four out of every five Americans are concerned about the environment, wildlife, and conservation, a new poll shows.
Additionally, 72% of Americans say they'd rather vote for a political candidate who supports protecting wildlife.
Why are basically no politicians paying attention to this?

Line graph time series of 2025's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with purple for the 1980s, blue for the 1990s, green for the 2000s, and white for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2000 to 2024. 2025 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between February and May by looking at the decadal average line positions.

β’ about 1,010,000 kmΒ² below the 2000s mean
β’ about 1,510,000 kmΒ² below the 1990s mean
β’ about 1,890,000 kmΒ² below the 1980s mean

Climate change impacts
Per the IPCC's latest report, changes to the climate system that are unparalleled over centuries to millennia are now occurring in every region of the world, from rising sea levels to more extreme weather events to rapidly disappearing sea ice.

I dislike the framing of climate tipping points, but it's good to keep in mind that there are components of the climate system that react nonlinearly to warming and will exacerbate climate change. We don't know the timing, but we know the only way to prevent disaster is to stop burning fossil fuels.
The Biden Admin, funded through the climate laws passed by Congress, made the biggest investment in rural electrification since the 1930s. It helps millions of folks have reliable, clean, affordable electricity and more competitive businesses. Musk is illegally canceling stuff we already paid for.
