Tourists don't have ultimate 'right to the city'
Opinion from Auckland University: NZ shouldnβt be making decisions about how Auckland functions based on who spends $20 at Kiwi Giftland on Queen Street, argues Dr Salene Schloffel-Armstrong.
"Luxon proposed a situation to New Zealanders where tourists on a trip of a lifetime have more of a right to exist in our cities than people trying to survive by sleeping on its streets"

"We were missing 12 whole nurses [over the day] and we only have 13 nurses on the morning shift altogether, so we were half staffed. It was absolutely nuts."
Remember there is no nursing shortage according then Minister Reti or TWO Commissioner Lester Levy.

Five years ago today I had a total gastrectomy for cancer.
Very grateful to superb surgical & anaesthetic teams for getting me thru major surgery.
It was certainly worth it!

Luxon himself handed me the Prime Minister's science prize last year. Let me say this in plain English: he's an idiot for running a govt who budgeted more for AI than for the Marsden fund. any journo reading this can quote me on it #nzpol

Truth be told, it does seem kind of silly to have the FBI do background checks on presidential appointees when the president is a convicted criminal and an adjudicated digital rapist.

Me, wearing a blue beret, with an aperol spritz in hand, at a cafe outside the Pantheon.
Iβve been trying not to talk about this too much but Iβve gotta say, having an aperol spritz after spending an afternoon at the Pantheon is hard to beat.

One thing public private partnerships do incredibly well is to funnel public funds into private profit and shareholder dividends. I've yet to see a PPP that delivers a good deal for the public. Thankfully @maxrashbrooke.bsky.social has the receipts.

'Embarrassing': Simeon Brown criticised for halting cycling and walking initiatives
The Transport Minister said cycling and walking initiatives are a waste of time and money.
"Frankly it's embarrassing for a government to put the brakes on what's the best bang for buck investment in transport, investing in cycling."

Iβve almost never seen that in this city outside of an actual protest so my prediction is this thing has legs.
