don’t get me wrong, i will often be out here writing about Othered characters having complicated feelings about white girls. but thats mostly therapy for me.

It’s mostly bc there’s a LOT of nuance and everyone has their own personal experiences with these, usually tied directly to the time and locale you grew up in, not to mention economic class.

Generalizations get WAYYYY touchier bc there is a lot of history, personal and otherwise, behind them.

I think it is ultimately way more interesting To Me in a fictional setting to explore the power dynamics/tensions that emerge between different non-white (or non-white coded) characters bc these absolutely exist in real life in ways that are often sort of invisible to white ppl

the difference is that when i was 18 & going to anime con midnight showings of the Ai no Kusabi OVAs i didnt have the premise in front of me beforehand to give me the ick the way i did with the aforementioned erotica series. I’ve seen it bro, i dont need more

both are yaoi with (unintentional?) raceplay elements and surprisingly complex background settings and political themes/subplots that are Interesting but are ultimately dwarfed in the cultural view of the series as “its yaoi where a blond man makes a darker skinned guy into his sex pet”
