I was going to say in that last response "that'll be why I've never heard of it," but then thought that might come across as suggesting ignorance of Irish politics was a given. But, that'll be why I've never heard of it!
You learn something new every day! 😅
Green pill?
Passed my viva with minor revisions today. So, apparently I'm a doctor now! Thanks to my supervisors, @anamariab99.bsky.social and Yuki Kamide, my examiners Mirona Gheorghiu and Christopher Benwell, and the viva coordinator Josephine Ross!

Yes! Is there a link?
This looks really interesting. Definitely going on the "to read" list
Presented at #ISPP2025 in Prague last week:

July will start with the @polpsyispp.bsky.social meeting in Prague, where I will be presenting my PhD research.
Then the viva in August...🤞
We created media consumption, trust and distrust variables by averaging Ad Fontes' bias and reliability of each source participants said they use, trust and distrust.
We found that rather than trust of biased, unreliable sources, distrust of unbiased, reliable media predicts CA/group consciousness.
Media Distrust, Group Identity, and Collective Action in the U.S. Gun Control Divide.
Media distrust is a direct predictor of CA in gun control supporters, and a predictor of group consciousness (which itself predicts CA) in 2nd Amendment supporters: doi.org/10.31219/osf...
The effect entails an increase in confidence in topic-knowledge, without an increase in actual knowledge (i.e. an increase in overconfidence) following giving an opinion on that topic.
We find the expected effect between no opinion and opinion conditions, but not between private and public opinions
Introducing the Opinion-Overconfidence Effect: How Publicly Expressing Opinions on Social Media Increases Confidence Without Knowledge.
In 3 preregistered studies, we test the novel opinion-overconfidence effect, upon which my thesis is based:

I keep seeing this quote from you. Where is it from originally?
We also went to a beautiful beach on the north coast of the island, but I think you'll find good beaches in any direction🤷♂️
Nothing to do with karate kid, but I was there for my honeymoon around this time of year. Going on a whale-spotting tour was well worth it. Also, as touristy as it is, going to for a meal in Naha where they play traditional music live is great. Are you just on the main island?
@minzlicht.bsky.social I'm listening to the latest episode of two psychologists (rarely) four beers a bit late, so just heard you're in Japan for a month. I lived there for 12 years, so if you're after any info send me a DM, and I'll help as much as I can
So, Britain is becoming more dishonest, because... self-report measures say so. Anyone see the flaw in this inference?

Just reading the title and abstract this reminds me a lot of @chrisbail.bsky.social's social media prism
Presented our research (with @anamariab99.bsky.social and Ihsan Yılmaz) on civilisational populism within Indian and Turkish diasporas in Australia today at the Japan Society of Quantitative Political Science winter meeting today
After that (and the 40+ essays I have to mark) I'll be planning for next term, when I'll be module convener for intro #socialpsych at Birkbeck!
Final day of term! This term I've taught academic writing at Roehampton, stats at Birkbeck, and a guest lecture on social media & psychology at Regent's. Tomorrow off to Japan to see the in-laws, where I'll also be presenting at JSQPS on civilisational populism in Indian/Turkish diasporas!
Wow, that blows me away! 😅
We have a lot of international students. No wonder we had to have an official announcement of how the scoring system works here after their first assignment!
I think the reaction of "ban any use of AI" is misguided, but when it produces bad work, it needs a reaction
I have likewise caught students with hallucinated references, who then lied to my face about it!
But I'm more bothered by the 70/100 "barely passing". Is that a typo? In the UK 70/100 is a first!
