I requested one around the same time I requested the one when I married Scales. I got them both within a week or so of each other. It seemed weird to request a certificate for a marriage that had ended, but since that was when my name changed it was necessary. I didn't change my name again this time

I was never given an official certificate when I got married the first time in the 90s. I had the certificate my pastor gave us, but apparently that is no longer official (it was sufficient then to change my name and get a success license).

FYI once you're over the age of 18, a passport lasts for 10 years. Still an investment in money and time, but not something that has to be done often. And it is easier to renew than start from scratch. You need a new photo, pay your money and mail your current passport to them.

Oh... And let's not even get into the backlog that will be created by everyone trying to get a passport at the same time. Why do you think DMVs around the country are so beyond?!? The Real ID requirement really clogged the system.

From what I understand though, Real IDs don't prove citizenship, which is what this is requiring. That was a PITA all on its own (getting the passport was easier, just more expensive). But even non citizens can get a Real ID, so that won't qualify as the proof needed.

I could be wrong on this, but I don't think this is actually the flex they think it is. That said, I still oppose it, because I still believe that even people who vote against their best interest should have the right to do so. /End

I believe the goal is to actually limit how many people are actually able to vote. I'm not sure that works out for them. Because the people who are unable to get the needed documentation are the same people that would vote for them. It's unconstitutional for sure, not that it matters to them. 4/

Only one-third of Americans have a valid US passport | YouGov Only a third of American adults say they have a valid and unexpired U.S. passport (37%) โ€“ about the same percentage as those who have never had a passport at all (38%).

I think this will backfire on the people pushing it. It is essentially a poll tax, but I would like to see some research as to the political leanings of those who will be least able to afford it. This article gives some insights. 3/

I believe in the Constitutional right that EVERYONE who is a US citizen should be able to vote easily. It is not easy to get a passport, nor is it cheap. There are documents that need to be gathered, often requiring requesting from out of state offices and paying for those. 2/

Firstly, I am absolutely opposed to the SAVE Act. As someone who changed my last name when I got married the first time, if I didn't have a passport already I'd be screwed. I do have a valid passport though so I'm good, why do I care? 1/

At best this is total incompetence and ignorance. At worst they don't even care that they're putting it out there for the world to see. Even giving them the benefit of the doubt, it's still inexcusable.

I have heard Col Malachowski speak in person. Truly an amazing pilot, service member and human being outside of the military. Some of the articles have been put back after the backlash, but they shouldn't have been removed to begin with.

My sister also can write with both hands. She's used her right hand for most things, left for writing until she gets tied and then she switches. But she was never forced to, it just happened naturally. Scales is also ambidextrous. I've watched him draw on a whiteboard with both hands.

My grandfather had his left hand tied behind his back to force him to use his right. Cruel and archaic.

From the autism community on Reddit: Changelings Posted by clare7038 - 1,067 votes and 84 comments

I had a lightbulb moment the first time I saw this years ago. We know more now, we have better terminology and diagnostics. As Maya Angelou says, "when you know better, do better."

When given the opportunity to work through things in a manner that works best for them, they thrive. It's when we expect them to do it the "normal" way that they struggle. As a society, we need to do better. /End

It hasn't always been easy for them, they've had challenges others haven't had to deal with. But I don't think those were because of autism, but rather because of "society's" expectations. /7

They recently moved into their first apartment together. They are amazing human beings and I feel so privileged to have watched them grow into kind, compassionate, funny, smart, productive citizens of the world. /6

I have twin godsons with autism, they'll be 25 this year. They both have jobs (through which they pay taxes) and own vehicles. They recently moved into their first apartment together. /5

Musk himself claims to have Asperger's, which is on the spectrum and while I will agree he doesn't pay (enough) taxes and is a drain on society, that's not because he's on the spectrum, he's just an ass. /4

18.04.2025 16:03 ๐Ÿ‘ 21 ๐Ÿ” 2 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Autism is a spectrum disorder, those who would fall into the category he's claiming are on the far end of the spectrum and generally have multiple issues they're dealing with in addition to autism. To include all people in that category is not only unfair it's categorically untrue. /3

It's because there are more people DIAGNOSED with autism. That's a fact. We all knew "quirky" kids when we were growing up, now we know they were not neurotypical. The fact that he made a blanket statement that said they will never pay taxes, live on their own, date, etc is assinine at best. /2

In response to RFK Jr's comments on autism, he's put on display his complete lack of understanding of what autism is... Not just what he thinks causes it. The increased numbers, which admittedly have grown exponentially, isn't necessarily because there are MORE people with autism. /1

This is a foundational reason why #Altgov exists.
Government information was bought and paid for by you. We won't let them hide behind their cowardice.

I came across these graphics which offer helpful advice for those who have been, or think they may be laid off. Not all the graphics may pertain to your specific situation, but the overall advice is solid.

Until today, when he asked me how to add this "I'm with Ukraine" to his Facebook profile photo. He's always been slow to anger, but you don't want to be on the other side of it. (Fwiw, I've only seen him truly angry a few times, and it was always in defense of his family.) I'm so proud of him.
