It's actually profoundly similar to the way that eugenicist anti vaccine organisations worked to disrupt messaging around COVID (and previously MMR)

love how we killed the old, frail anti-nuke ayatollah just to have him replaced with his young, healthy son who wants nukes and who just had his father, mother, wife, and child murdered on the same day by his mortal enemy. surely this will bring peace to the region

The King of Spring: my loyal subjects! you shall all come to love Spring. After all, don’t you hate how early it gets dark in the winter? In Spring the days naturally become longer!

AI error or not, Iran school bombing is a permanent stain on America’s soul | Will Bunch A debate on AI in warfare obscures the truth about an Iran school bombing. U.S. humans are to blame for this war crime.

They had names. They had beautiful faces. And they had the same dreams as your kids - crushed when American "precision" bombs slammed into their Minab elementary school, killing 175

Don't blame AI for this. Blame the sick humans who see war as a game

The demon stands next to Lucy with a hand on her arm. She sits with her elbows on her knees. The demon says, "Listen, I think you've been pushing too hard--you're going to make yourself sick at this rate." Lucy says, "I can't afford to slow down."

Lucy lies on her back, holding a tissue. The demon is sitting with its legs underneath her, holding a box of tissues and looking distinctly unimpressed. Lucy says, "Oh no I am sick." The demon says, "What a surprise." Lucy snaps back, "Quiet, you." The demon continues, "Who could have possibly foreseen this."

I got interviewed by them once and they also made up quotes. I think that's just how they roll.

Yeah. I was planning to go into academia when I finished my PhD but between *gestures at everything* and genAI, I just went into industry. I love teaching, but I can't kill myself trying to survive academia right now. And being trans puts SO many restrictions on where I can live.

I need to stop answering their mental health questionnaires accurately. My doctors keep getting very concerned when the actual function of my brain is fine, it's just that the government is actually out to get me at the moment, which brings on a bit of stress.

Well, to be fair, "aluminium" is just objectively more fun to say

The β€œshield” is intolerable here as well.

β€œParents tried to shield their children from water. Instead they died of dehydration.”

That’s what the @nytimes.com headline here says. Both β€œshield” and β€œinstead” appallingly reinforce anti-vax attitudes and frames.

We are easily frightened by extra "u"s and the use of "s" instead of "z" (and don't even mention how you say that last letter! 😱)

If you ever want to read a paper for free and can't find it otherwise, email the lead author and politely ask for a copy. You will not be bothering the person. You will in fact make their whole entire day. I have had scientists get so excited I asked they sent me everything they ever published.

Exactly. First you let Platner in the door, then you get Neera Tanden retweeting Nick Fuentes, and then your big tent is a fucking Nazi hangout.

No fucking Nazi shit. Period.

I will add one last thought. Many of the responses from Democratic lawmakers and liberal commentators (even the good ones) contain some ambivalence - some hope that perhaps the fall of the Iranian regime, even at the hands of Donald Trump, will be for the best. I understand why. I am the son of an Iranian immigrant. Ultimately I want freedom, democracy, and dignity for the Iranian people. The problem is that I've seen the American government promise all of those things a hundred times, and I've never seen them deliver it once.

I've made a very firm rule on our discord now that nothing is a distraction. Everything is happening! If you are getting distracted by something that is a YOU problem and firmly within your power to fix!

The rest of us can multi-task.

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

- Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.

I have that one - you get 4 times and you can tell it how many little "servings" (I can't remember how much it is, it's small though) to give at each time. I can feed 2 cats from one feeder with no problem, but you could easily do 1 cat.
