yeah @expedition33.bsky.social is amazing! very hard to put down, everything is executed so well ๐
massive pecs*
idk man sound pretty WOKE! ๐
I'm tired boss
I see, do you think that it turning around will be more on the AAA side upscaling again or more by new studios coming up?
do you reckon that the current trajectory of the industry will continue? if so, do you think it'll turn around at some point? From what I can see it seems strange what's going on because there's been over 50% revenue increase over the past 5 years yet everyone's still getting laid off, maybe idk smt
don't go back too far or you'll have to deal with standing still for potions ๐ก best QOL change they ever made
BC dev here, don't have much out but a YT vid about my game as of yet tho
To be fair, with how Adobe is going those photoshop licenses might be the cause of the whole deficit ๐คฃ
I may also have to make a monster hunter wilds video to justify the amount of time I know I'm going to be spending on it ๐
finally have a new video coming out tmrw at 4pm PST, it really has been a while though damn ๐คฃ
I think there's definitely going to continue being a problem, especially at the AAA level, but I remain a bit (maybe naively) optimistic that people still want video games. I think a big part of it honestly might be ppl needing to take a different social media approach, but I could be off base
nvm figured it out, a little complicated but overall the new unreal camera system is real nice
good list, I'm quite partial to twilight's city in the sky myself though for me it's gotta be up there
so I'm trying to use the new Gameplay Camera System in Unreal, does anyone know how to get the location and forward vectors of the actual spawned camera? I feel like it should be simple but I haven't found any docs on it ๐ maybe I'll just read epic's c++ class itself
I'm a solo dev working on some stuff in unreal atm, hopefully gonna make a bunch of content about it soon
it's even so much sillier because I SWEAR people only started caring at all a couple years ago; ppl just want things to be mad at idk
it really do be like that sometimes
being a league player, seeing the characters in a new light is awesome, but other than that, outside of the obvious visuals being gorgeous, I find the story amazing, especially all the little attention to detail they put into it; it seems like there just about aren't any frames that are accidental
And congrats to Astro Bot for winning GOTY as well btw
Wow, Swen Vincke's speech at TGA tonight was really amazing, I'd recommend you check it out ๐
I have some solo projects of game remakes on my YT channel, but other than that, used to work on EA Sports, now do freelance work
people actually call me THE game dev of all time turns out
YO! Let's do this again ^_^ GameDev pack tym. The part 2 wasn't full (56/150 rn) so sharing this again!

known games industry layoffs by year
known games industry layoffs by month
2024 currently has more known games industry layoffs than 2023+2022 combined.
2024 is roughly 600 layoffs away from doubling 2023. There is still plenty of business days left in the month.
I can't emphasize enough how extreme these last few years have been.
So far.
That "indie" is where innovation happens generally isn't true anymore. We iterate to breakthroughs. At large, indie is more risk-averse & homogenous than it's been - publishers gatekeep, focus on graphics, and balloon budgets. Innovation comes from self-published games launching their practice game.
