Happy New Year! Will endeavour to start posting on here again :).
Happy New Year! Will endeavour to start posting on here again :).
On a mostly related note: I miss my Gameboy Camera. The software on it was mad, especially the aesthetics of it. It could have been so straightforward and boring but the team that made it just went crazy (in an awesome way). Fairly sure it gave me a few nightmares as a kid, though.
I keep seeing friends' birthdays on Facebook and being surprised at their age ("omg so old"), then realise that I'm either the same age or not far off it :p.
I have a PlayStation 3, an OG Xbox and a 3DS :D. I'm very modern.
Remember when some (too many) game/software publishers back in the day used fonts that didnβt clearly distinguish between 0 and O for their CD keys? Probably absurdly long too. Fun times
In the end, I haven't had much of a chance to put it in action haha.
Sorry Iβve been completely silent for about a month. Iβm now employed as a game developer working on quest/content design! Just finished my first week and am buzzing. Feels great to have people believe in you.
At what age do people suddenly feel the urge to buy a display cabinet and fill it with plates to show off?
Fantastic job, it looks great!
Itβs all just a way for me to get me used to having less, rather than having clang-tidy, the debugger or Claude help me out constantly because I donβt feel like visually debugging. As for no highlighting, weβll see :P. Mine is quite minimal anyway.
I do use vim as a text editor :p.
The main thing I care about is to stop me being careless and being reliant on a linter, debugger or colour cue to point out my mistake rather than me using my brain.
I keep getting rekt in tech interviews as I donβt have any of these nice things I normally use.
Gonna go full Rob Pike π
Ah yeah, is your engine written in C?
I feel like I've become far too reliant on the things listed below, and I'm gonna experiment with dropping them from my workflow:
- IDEs
- Linters
- Syntax highlighting
- Any use of LLMs
I might also just use plain C, not C++. But we'll see (no pun intended).
Wish me luck!

I somehow managed to get my submission for the #love2d-jam on time. It's a game about answering emails! I couldn't get a web build working, which is unfortunate, but if you'd like to have a go, here's the link: stevegwh.itch.io/dokidokioffice
How my #love2d game jam entry is coming along!

6 hours of play time later, and I can confirm this game is great. Hard as, but probably one of the best platformers I've played. The randomly spawning enemies can fuck off, though.
Trying to finish my submission to the #love2d 2025 jam. For the theme of 'plan', I've made a game about answering timed emails (typing game style) where you have a calendar and a file browser to find the correct info to respond with. It's a bit flat rn, I need to add more jeopardy and sfx.

Wait til he hears about some of the odd hentai games you can get on steam. (So Iβve heard)
Getting round to playing some games in my library and settled on "Umihara Kawase". This game is kicking my ass. Reminds me of getting annoyed as hell playing Shinobi on the mega drive as a kid. Fun but highly irritating lol.
In other news, I really miss when all websites looked like this:
www.fightersgeneration.com/fightersgen....
I am just having a bit of fun prototyping things, and the main takeaway is: physics is fun.
Maybe it's just fond memories of Garry's mod and HL2, but anything I make that is physics-based always seems the most fun to me. It also helps I don't have to write the physics engine myself...

Left a comment :). Tbf, regarding height, you're sitting down most the time in that room anyway, so not the end of the world. Unless you forget about the height and stand up too quickly lol. Anyway, I'm jealous of your setup :D
Looks awesome... 5ft high ceiling would absolutely destroy me though, I'm over 6ft! haha.

Tempted to make games in s&box... I really just am trying to find a fast/easy platform (not roblox) where you can publish games/maps and have a hope of them being discovered by players. I was really hyped about UEFN at first but it seems everyone says it's rubbish, and the discoverability is awful.
I started a new project in Unity, got inconvenienced, and then decided to try out Godot again for the first time since 2018 instead. Already quite impressed with how many templates there are out there nowadays.

Kinda feel like I want to go on a writing retreat but instead of a novel it would be making a game. Need to travel a bit. UK winter just isnβt it
Lucky you! When I was 22 people told me I looked 33 π₯²
Good to hear regarding my portfolio. Thanks a lot for having a look! Iβve been told itβs likely one of the worst times ever to be trying to entering the industry. Which is less than ideal :D. But Iβve had just enough interest already that I donβt think itβs a lost cause. Onwards and upwards.
