Yet again, seeing one of your posts relating to AT Protocolβ¦ I end up down a rabbit warren of posts discovering really cool things people are building. π

Agreed.
As I was typing that up I was thinking about highend business class meals on the likes of SQ or QR. Most passengers in premium cabins don't realise that each item on their beautifully presentend plate, were in a box or foil containers until five minutes ago.
All re-routed flights come at a cost.
My response was more about airlines generally being able to 'work' with whoever they choose and book passengers on other airlines when necessary.
Airlines donβt need to be in an alliance to move people around the globe - EK and EY interline with numerous airlines that will happily transport passengers when they have availability.
I remember the snobbery when wine bottles with screw tops were introduced. Now, theyβre brilliant because putting the top back on is easier then forcing a cork back in.
Transporting wine in Tetra Pak takes up less space & considerably less weight on every flight. In time itβll be considered normal.
Helps that MH have this week taken delivery of a new A330.
Theyβre repatriation flights to get passengers whoβve been stranded in Abu Dhabi back home. Emirates will be also be doing a few repatriation flights today from DXB & DWC.
BA have seized the opportunity to generate a lot of buzz & fanfare. Only time will tell if BA will be spending money on LGW. Would be awesome to see investment & more longhaul destinations.
Reading the statement, reads like itβs just one new B787 for Gatwick. Presumably LGW will more at some point, but will they be new from Boeing or hand-me-downs from Heathrow.
Thereβs quite a few not-so-obvious bits that do link to other parts of the UK.
One example: Several Asian airlines codeshare with the likes of Great Western and other TOCs to carry their passengers onwards from London. Hong Kong to Cardiff β
Singapore to Newquay β
While MH are adding a new daily flight, it looks like QR are dropping a flight. Seen QR do this on a number of routes in recent years as they boost frequency elsewhere or start new routes.
In Thailand itβs celebrated as a secular "Festival of Happiness" rather than a religious holiday - focused on fun, shopping & decorations.
Thai people love its joyful atmosphere, sparkling lights and malls decorated with Christmas trees & Santa Claus appearing at events.
Quite like a morning departure from Asia to Doha, with one or two naps over the course of the flight - think of it it as a cheeky afternoon nap rather than βa sleep because you are trying to sync your body clockβ. Trick is not to think, at any point, what time is at your point of departure.
Going from Asia, I tend not to feel jet lagged or out of sync if taking the overnight flight (getting 7 or so hours of sleep) into Doha. Then a hot & refreshing shower in the lounge, an espresso or two, followed by a morning departure to Europe.
Turn your list into a fab bit of artβ¦
βMostly businessβ - the passenger & destination profile has changed a lot over the years, now a lot more leisure passengers. They can fly from an airport thatβs closer to home and one thatβs hassle-free.
KLM operates several flights a day to AMS flying people onwards around the globe.
Last time we used Heathrow Express we used a railcard & booked in advanceβ¦ just Β£13.30 for two of us. Which means thatβs considerably cheaper than just one of us going on the Elizabeth Line.
Really not a fan of those overnight flights between UK / Europe and Doha - try my best to avoid them. Did overnight Madrid to Doha earlier this year as it was the only option. Delayed departure and an early arrival meant I got even less time to sleep.
Privelege Club members get an hour of free WiFi on non-Starlink planesβ¦ except that option isnβt available on the leased Virgin Australia planes (donβt know about the leased Cathay planes). Another example of how the offering can vary from one plane to another.
Varies from airline to airline. American, for example, have fewer affected than first thoughtβ¦ because theyβve been slow to do a software update.
Remember Pretβs Avios trial? Wonder what theyβll trial next.
A new UK-first pilot scheme is aiming to create fast & more reliable train WiFi, using technology originally developed for Formula 1 cars.
DoT has secured Β£41m to introduce LEO satellite connectivity on all mainline trains by 2030, so let's hope it's a success & gets rolled out quickly. π€

Guessing itβs going to be just one word π
Common for Air Canada flights into Frankfurt to park at a remote stand - @yyzbound.bsky.social has parked his plane there on a few occasions. (Looks like heβs trimmed his posts so canβt link to his photos.)
Yes, youβll get QRβs βaward-winning serviceβ but wonβt get Starlink on that flight.
Whilst QR are loudly promoting the fact that itβs now installed on all of their B777 fleetβ¦ itβs missing one important detail - itβs not being installed on these leased planes.
The white livery in photo #1 is what theyβve applied to the Cathay Pacific & Virgin Australia leased planes.
Happy 30th birthday easyJet π₯³
From one aircraft & employing 77 people, to being the UK's largest airline with 356 aircraft, more than 1,200 routes and employing 19,000 people.

Looking forward to seeing what newβ¦ erm, tree ornaments, you acquire this year π
Seems thatβs maybe the caseβ¦ and theyβll only operate to London if the follow-on order is placed.
