It's podcasting btw. If you think the AI knows more about podcasting than I do then... don't take the class?

Anyway, I'm just discovering in real time this is a special interest of mine? My point is, if you want an award for whatever reason, you might be able to enter for yourself!

I have entered and won awards in the past where my project was actually giving shine to this awards body and I was paying for the privilege. But some major awards, like the Grammys, are weirdly cheap to enter, though you have to be a member (also cheap to become but you need to be sponsored).

I can be cynical in general about the utility of awards, but they can be worth it. The Texas Bluebonnets, for example, encourages all kids in Texas to read the winners for credit, which is $$$. And that's just one regional award. Other awards are worth it for the PR. Just down to what you want.

That being said, I think a lot of authors don't realize that you can enter awards yourself. I think many people think you have to be spontaneously nominated and that is not the case. Nominate yourself! Yes it often costs money, but not always. And a lot of awards have scholarships.

I used to submit for awards for a publisher and we weren't in a position to really do a lot of picking and choosing when it came to which book should go to what just because we published a wide variety and usually there was only one candidate, but everything you said is pretty accurate.
