hehe ya :) uuuu i love swamp milkweed 🦀 i’ve only encountered it once, at the bank of a pond in kansas. the pods looked smaller & cuter to me than the stout goblin zizotes i am accustomed to. i’m excited to be back up and catch the plants again when they’re blooming 🦔

aw precious:) part of why i took this one (and another sibling) in was to protect my own milkweed. there was little food for them where they hatched; my older plants’ above-ground growth had mostly died off and the only other option was teeny seedlings that i didn’t want the grubs getting at 🤏

i abducted them as a grub early in january before everything became encased in ice & collected the milkweed that’s always growing at any given time across my neighborhood 🌱🐛 in return they shat on the cutting board

big orange baby emerged yesterday. he is the luckiest invertebrate, skipping all the deadly weather and eclosing on the first day beginning a streak of favorable temperatures that might last all the way to spring
