Worries are growing that Iran is deploying mines β one of its most potent and disruptive weapons β in the Strait of Hormuz.
Here's why that could threaten the U.S. and the world.
the country is at war and the president is leaving DC this afternoon for a weekend at his private club in Florida that he'll spend with his paying customers

Tell your Senators: Oppose the SAVE Act. The stakes are too high to sit this one out!
Hegseth: βWar is hell. War is chaos. And as we saw yesterday with the tragic crash of our KC-135 tanker, um, bad things can happen.β
Most corrupt, incompetent, and unqualified presidential administration in US history.
Yup, spot on.
Jeffries: Heβs been a failure. Republicans have been a failure. And to the extent that we need regime change at this moment, it is going to come in November.
As this war deepens, I suggest you read what I wrote about Donald Trump's plan to use his attack on Iran to justify a power grab over voting in the 2026 midterms. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/trum...
The U.S. Navy will escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, "perhaps with an international coalition," as "soon as it is militarily possible," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Sky News.
Itβs so funny that FIFA gave Trump a Peace Prize and a few months later he threatened to kill a national team that qualified for the World Cup.
This entire story is insane. The incompetence from start to finish is just nuts. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
We took a little βexcursionβ.
WARREN: Has Rubio made any request for transcom to help evacuate Americans out of Middle East?
REED: State made a request on Feb 28 & we have provided some assistance
W: When we called them yesterday, they said they haven't asked you for assistance. Can you explain that?
R: I cannot explain that

Slotkin: "If Russia is helping to kill US forces, we have crossed a rubicon. We have to take decisive action on that. Instead, we're giving them breaks on oil. They're making a ton of money."
Bonkers Pentagon press conference just now.
Pete Hegseth said we donβt need to worry about the Strait of Hormuz.
Then, between cliches and nonsense, he suggested new βpatrioticβ headlines news outlets should be using and said that he canβt wait for David Ellison to take over βfake newsβ CNN.
We were founded in 2020 to fill a space that was missing in the media: covering the threats facing democracy.
Six years later, those threats have only worsened, while our work has become more critical.
We are Democracy Docket. Fearlessly independent, unapologetically pro-democracy.
Hegseth, just minutes apart
Hegseth specifically complained about a CNN report saying the Trump admin underestimating the Iran war's impact on the Strait of Hormuz. A CNN spokesperson says the network stands by its reporting. Here's the article: www.cnn.com/2026/03/12/p...
Moments after calling CNN "fake news" for reporting that the administration had not planned for Iran to shut down the Strait of Hormuz, Hegseth basically confirms that they didn't plan for it.
Hegseth: "President Trump holds the cards. He'll determine the pace, tempo, timing of this conflict. His hand firmly on the wheel as well as on the throttle setting ... today will be yet again the highest volume of strikes America has put over the skies of Iran and Tehran. Ramping up and only up."
Talarico: "There's another war in the Middle East. There's a cost of living crisis. There's a secret pedophile ring & no one has been prosecuted. So the people responsible are trying to distract us with the same old culture wars ... what do the American people care more about -- pronouns or prices?"
Hegseth: "We're proud to partner with the incredibly capabilities the Iranians -- or excuse me, the Israelis have. But our objectives are our objectives. When those are met, we'll set the tempo of when those are met."
Iran has warned that the world should get ready for oil at $200 per barrel.
Energy Sec. Wright is having a hard time spinning while the US Energy Department warned prices are unlikely to recede to pre-war levels until mid 2027 at the earliest, affecting industries across the board.
