The last thing I worked on was actually exhaust and dirt/grass kick up particles. I learned a lot about Godot's particle systems in the process but thought the end result was too busy.
Air stream particles would definitely be a nice addition for increasing the sense of flow/speed

It is an orb of sludge. The top cracks open and burns. White hands grasp desperately, pulling the dark sludge towards them as it succumbs to gravity. The bottom oozes down. beings struggle to emerge. One has almost come completely out of the muck. The orb clings to its emaciated body. It clings with tendrils. A piece has dripped off, and falls into to the invisible clarity below.

Scrabbling and clinging and fighting the inevitability of gravity. They will not hold this shape forever.
