But whoever covers a story doesn't necessarily have to be geographically close, especially for something like this. (Most of the stories I do aren't in NYC.)

One other datum: the person who filed the print story for Forbes.com is based in New Delhi. Not a red flag: we ofc have no idea if that's the same person who did the video on YouTube. And that's not necessarily bad - global news orgs need people around the world for schedules, full coverage, etc.
So to answer your question kinda, I think it's relatively rare. It definitely surprised me when I saw it. Particularly bc I'd already seen the pic of the Mayuree Naree on cnn.com and I knew that there was at least one shot of the actual ship out there, if not on Getty Images.
i.e. - was this an aberration for them, or was this part of their normal approach/workflow? Laziness? Incompetence? Corner-cutting? Routine? I'm not familiar enough with their output to judge.
As far as the locations? I'm not sure if they ignored them, or meant to put a disclaimer in, or what their process was. I know that at my shop, this would NOT fly at all and if I published that video, I'd likely be in some trouble. I don't know if their standards/practices are different at Forbes.
at least - I was doing those searches myself to find material for a story on the Strait today and ran across several of those photos, which is why the Forbes video looked familiar. So someone was definitely trying to use recent material.
Good question! I don't know, really, how common it is. And these images were mostly found by doing searches for things like "cargo ship" or similar - they were posted in the last day or so. (Except for the HMS Severn photo; I'm not sure how they found it. I found by googling the pennant number.)
Super interesting to try! And I had more floaters than I'd realized.

When the President decides photojournalists can’t take pictures at Sec’y Hegseth’s Iran briefings, it’s not a small thing. We’re connecting the dots to the larger efforts to erode our 1st Amendment rights, just when we need them the most. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

I just read about a forthcoming cocktail book by Klaus St. Rainer. It looks good and I've heard of his bar in Munich, but: nominative determinism much?
(Does he have cousins named Heinrich S.Haker and Rolf M.Uddler?)

The Italian movie poster: “l’ultima missione.”
The Italian title for Project Hail Mary is not, for obvious reasons, “Progetto Ave Maria.”

1.) why can't I find a gif of one of the "WHISKEY!" shouts from Snuff Box?
b.) however there are lots of Mary Berry gifs. Amused to contemplate her relationship with Matt.
100% in favor of this if it includes reasonably priced resident permit parking for cars registered here. Maybe 20% of the cars in The Bronx commit insurance fraud driving my rates up. Fuck those people w Pennsylvania plates.

"Ultimately, the problem isn’t simply that this incentive-structure rewards Trump. It’s that the media is methodically remaking the entire political landscape in his image. The media may not love Donald Trump. But its own fucked-up incentives are creating a world designed for someone like him."
