Good luck everyone!
At this stage itβs a SchrΓΆdinger cat situation, I both have and have not been successful in my application. But thatβs okay, happy to wait, itβs not like our livelihood and ability to continue research depends on this announcement

This works builds on our previous studies incl where we piloted tested the model of care (www.nature.com/articles/s41...) and assessed the experiences of parents (www.nature.com/articles/s41...).
Lastly, thanks for my amazing team @igmgroup.bsky.social who made this project possible.
And what did we find?
We were able to show that a dedicate model of care for pediatric immunology:
βοΈEliminated duplicate testing
βοΈImproved diagnostic yield (check out the figure below!)
βοΈImproved test documentation (e.g. consent rate)
βοΈInformed improvements to the model of care
So what did we do?
βοΈCollected nearly 10 years worth of clinical genetic testing data in pediatric #immunology for Queensland.
βοΈDescribed our cohort in terms of indication for testing, types of genomic test and results.
βοΈLooked at the impact of a dedicated model of care on genomic test practice
Iβm very excited to share our new pre-print! What started as my spreadsheet to track genomic testing in paediatric immunology, has become a nearly 10y audit of genomic testing outcomes.
The paper may have already been rejected twice, but I think itβs seriously cool data!
100%!
At this stage who knows when the outcomes will be announced. Could be this week, next week, next month π€·π»ββοΈ
Exactly!
Definitely not alone!

Right now, the Government is starving medical research of full funding, even as it claims that science and research are national priorities. If our leaders truly value science as much as they say, then they must back their words with actionβand fund it properly.

The success rate for NHMRC Ideas Grants announced yesterday was just over 8%. That means 11 of every 12 people who applied got rejected. This is a culture changing level of rejection and frankly a point of national shame. This is a crisis for research.
I will not rest until we see this resolved.
