@sxsw.com here I come!! Honoured to be speaking for the second year in a row with @foodtank.bsky.social. For a one-on-one conversation, “Generation Nature.”
Looking forward to sharing some of what’s been on my mind lately in the conversation.

UK's greenhouse gas emissions have crashed to a 150-year low according to @carbonbrief.org analysis.
The fall puts UK emissions below level seen in 1926. The biggest factors:
➡️ Gas use falling to lowest level in 34 years
➡️ Coal use dropping to levels last seen in 1600
Societies that integrate green spaces, natural light, and ecological awareness into daily life consistently report higher measures of wellbeing. Living in alignment with nature may be one of the most profound and evidence-backed investments we can make in human flourishing.

🌲 Tree cover density in North America.
Cutting 25% of its original forest cover since colonial settlement, we’re sitting at ~32% forested today.
Scientists detail 40-50% protection of land (forests, wetlands, grasslands) is needed to reverse the biodiversity & climate crisis.

A forest is not just trees. It is a water treatment plant, a carbon vault, a pharmacy, a flood barrier, and a livelihood source. Manage it as all of these.
NATURE itself is a third space
this is very sad to see.
What we must do immediately:
1) End the use of fossil fuels
2) Build massive amounts of solar & wind
3) Decarbonize & Electrify
4) Scale solutions for high-emission sectors (air travel, animal farming, cement)
5) Stop cutting down forests

decarbonizing cement production, structural changes to factory animal farming, replacing jet fuel with sustainable option

The UK is pulling back on climate aid promises!
The Biodiverse Landscapes Fund designed to protect 6 regions: Africa, Asia, and South America. It’s now reportedly reducing to 2.
At a moment of accelerating biodiversity loss, shrinking aid is the opposite of what science calls for.
Thanks for the shout out!!💚
Love forests! 🌳
This is great! I actually just wrote a comprehensive piece similar to this on Substack - you all should check it out!

This aid was inspired by David Attenborough’s Blue Planet. As he approaches his 100th birthday, dismantling one of the UK’s flagship ocean protection programs is a strange tribute to the man who helped the world fall in love with the ocean. 🌊

Our first report on Rwanda - the very frontline of the climate crisis.
Too often those impacts first and worst by the climate crisis are those you contributed the least to the worsening climate crisis. Thank you for highlighting this disparity.
This is exactly true and in the U.S. there is a national tool called Tree Equity Score which details the nature gap across local zip codes.

Wow! this is genuinely beautiful!
the real world, we are missing out on
Great piece of art!
In just the last 20 years, beef production destroyed global forests the size of California, mostly in the tropics
Through tree loss alone (not including methane or feed crop production), this caused 3x the annual CO2 emissions of the US
It's the cow, not the how
January 2026 was the fifth-warmest January on record globally. Europe saw its coldest January since 2010, while much of the Arctic was unusually warm. Arctic sea ice extent was third-lowest on record for the month.

what a view, that's the all the inspiration needed. No music necessary! 👏👏
The difference between a street with and without a tree canopy is striking. It’s hard to overstate how important street trees are to the health of a neighborhood and should be seen as a public good.
