Iraq and Afghanistan each had populations of about 25 millions, and they were a long term commitment to get out of after a lot of blood and treasure spent. Iran is a nation of over 90 million. An invasion will likely awaken a sense of patriotism even in those who hate the regime. Looming disaster.
I worry about occupation fatigue, after the first wave, when their lives are completely upended, how many of those 2/3rds will come to resent us. Then once again we find ourselves stuck trying to stabilize the situation and get out, and finding it never seems to be the right time.

A mighty oak has fallen. I've written about Rev. Jesse Jackson many times over the years, and spoken with him at length. A controversial figure, without a doubt, but as I learned more about the man, writing this, I came to respect him. He was heroic.
