Truly. It feels bizarre, but they are genuinely standing up for immigrants’ rights in a way that is actually helpful. Disagree with them on just about everything else, but I appreciate what they are doing now.

Thread. Democrats in Maryland’s Congressional delegation descended on ICE’s Baltimore facility today, anticipating the goons who assaulted Minneapolis will soon surge into their state. @gbrockell.bsky.social has notes on their appalled reaction.
He says he can't prove ICE emptied the facility because they were tipped off about the visit, but that's what he believes happened. "Obviously they want to continue the pattern of hiding from the American people."

Reporter asks if they were able to take photos and about their skepticism about the emptiness of the facility. Sen. Van Hollen says it was immediately contentious bc they were not allowed to take photos, Reps. Mfume and Reps. Ivey will file some subpoenas on this he said.
Rep. @repkweisimfume.bsky.social cites the huge team they've assembled and says, "this is what it is going to take" to stop ICE from "snatching grandmothers" and other people all over Baltimore.

VanHollen says ICE staffing is ramping up in Baltimore. "We need to do what the people in Minneapolis did." We need to bring witness and accountability to them, he says.
He was standing the next to Sen. Van Hollen the whole time, and then he spoke.
Rep. Ivey said the facility was mostly empty. @jjindc.bsky.social noted yesterday there was an extra ICE flight stop at BWI, a larger jet that usually goes to Newark on Sundays. He wondered then if they were trying to empty a facility ahead of inspection.
Baltimore Mayor says he's reiterated to police they cannot coordinate with ICE.
"To our immigrant neighbors: We will always have your back."
Of ICE's actions here: "This is authoritarian. It's fascist. it's racist," and if we don't make it stop here, they'll move on to other people next.
