Harpreet Uppal MP, Debbie Abrahams MP and Qazi Marzia Babakarkhail
It would be remiss of me on the International Day for Women Judges not to mention the plight of women judges who fled Afghanistan under Taliban rule, a campaign close to me, as my dear friend Marzia Babakarkhail, a judge herself from Afghanistan, has campaigned on.
Sir Richard backed the Prime Minister in his cautious approach and agreed with the principles that international law must be observed and there must be a viable plan. He speaks with immense experience and clarity on the current war in Iran.
Please watch the @skynewsrss.bsky.social interview with the former NATO Deputy Supreme Commander Allied Forces Europe, General Sir Richard Shirreff.

Thank you to CBFFJ members who travelled far and wide to join us, and to the amazing panellists, Profs Naomi Fulop and Christina Pagel from CBFFJ and @independentsage.bsky.social, Nathan Oswin from @tuc.org.uk, Dr John Chisholm CBE from @bma.org.uk, and Jolyon Maugham KC from @goodlawproject.org.
In particular we discussed the findings in the Module 2 report which examined the responses of the UK government and devolved administrations to the pandemic.
Debbie Abrahams MP sits in the centre, with Prof Naomi Fulop to her right and Prof Christina Pagel to her left.
Today marks the final public evidence session of the Covid-19 Inquiry.
On Tuesday evening, I was pleased to host a panel event to discuss what Parliament needs to do now with @cbffjuk.bsky.social in the House of Commons.
Thank you @Debbie_abrahams for chairing our discussion on the module 2 report in Parliament today.
Its vitally important we get the @covidinquiryuk recommendations implemented in full.
Doing so will save lives.
The international community's lack of meaningful action against Israel’s illegal actions has allowed them to continue in this vein. We MUST act now.
119 UK Parliamentarians call for further sanctions on Israel and a total ban on all trade and interaction with illegal Israeli settlements in letter to @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social
This letter was drafted before the latest military action against Iran.
She was able to point to marginal improvements since the report of the WPSC in 2019 including better communication with carers, however, there were still significant problems including a lack of a plan to address the recommendations made including compensation, monitoring, etc.
She gave us an excellent insight to what she found while collating her review. Fundamentally she believed DWP's culture was 'mixed' with for example stark differences between Labour Ministers and some senior officials.
As Chair of the Work & Pensions Select Committee (WPSC), we held a one-off evidence session on 'Carer's Benefits beyond the Sayce Review'.
The first panel consisted of Liz Sayce who undertook the review in her name on the overpayment of Carer's Allowance.
There are now over 40% women MPs, so many of whom packed the Chamber for this photo!!
All the women MPs in Parliament standing in the House of Commons
This Sunday is International Women’s Day (IWD), and I will be celebrating IWD by hosting my annual event in Oldham this Friday afternoon to celebrate women’s achievements. Do email me at abrahamsd@parliament.uk if you would like to join.
At a recent community meeting on this one resident told me they were keen to get involved and thought the invitation sounded exciting. This is people-first decision-making with local people deciding where local money is spent. A good start to reducing power inequalities!!
In her response, the Chancellor mentioned the introduction of #PrideinPlace, which in Oldham and Saddleworth means an extra £20m over the next 10 years for Alt, Holts and Lees
I was keen to hear how the Chancellor would ensure all dimensions of inequality - income, wealth, power and health - are tackled and that these benefits are felt all across the country and in all communities.
The Chancellor's #SpringStatement today sets out the benefits to their living standards the British public will start to feel this year.
This is the difference having @labouruk.bsky.social in government will be mean to people.
I am also excited to hear that they are joining us on Friday for International Women's Day!
If you would like to join me at my event on Friday please email me at abrahamsd@parliament.uk
Debbie Abrahams MP with Support and Action Women's Network
Thank you to Support & Action for Womens' Network - SAWN for meeting with me to discuss the Greater Manchester Living Income campaign that was launched in May 2025.
It was exciting to hear about the Living Income pilot in Oldham and the community assembly in the Spring.
Debbie Abrahams MP out on Littlemoor, Oldham, with Councillor Nadeem Iqbal and volunteers
It was great to be out on #Littlemoor on my #weeklyMPknock thanks to Councillor Nadeem Iqbal, Aqeel Salamat and their team for joining me.
We reported the rubbish and fly tipping we saw to Oldham Council.
Do email me at abrahamds@parliament.uk if there's anything you need help with!
I asked about the discussions he'd had with Arab states and Türkiye on developing a de-escalation plan.
He confirmed that these had started at the weekend.
#ParliamentariansforPeace #RuleofLaw #UnitedNations
At today's statement on the US and Israel's strikes against Iran, the Prime Minister confirmed that the rule of law and having a viable plan were his guiding principles for any involvement of the UK in military action.
Congratulations to all and especially to the Chair, Dr Eamonn O'Daly!
This morning I visited Uppermill Cricket Club, where Saddleworth Carers meet twice a month. One of the most frequently-cited issues carers face is feeling isolated and cut off from support, so the group's work - giving carers an opportunity for community - is so vital.
Debbie Abrahams MP at the Annual Great Multi-Faith Iftar
I was grateful to be invited to the Annual Great Multi-Faith Iftar Dinner at #TheSheridan by #HaroonAfzalKhattana at the Pakistani Community Centre
It was good to see High Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Faisal from #PakistanHighCommissionUK and the new Pakistan Consul General Imtiaz Feroz again
