A male Cassin's finch uses some snow to hydrate while the morning sun illuminates his red crown feathers
❤️📷 Haemorhous cassinii, aka Cassin's Finch (atm?)...Small, somewhat chunky finch with a conical bill & a notched tail. Adult males have a brighter red peaked crown. Note nearly unstreaked underparts.
That backlit crown is the easiest way to tell if it's a House finch or a Cassin's! He eats snow!❄️🪶🌿
