When taking a break from archaeology I like to make things. This is something I have been working on in the run up to Christmas - a Mari Lwyd tree topper. My family are from Llangynwyd and I have lovely memories of my gran telling us all about he Dad going around with the Mari when she was younger

Rethinking my Mari Llwyd from last year to give her more strength and support with a stronger wire frame. Still need to get the make time down if going to produce to sell but loving her development. Folk horror meets cottage core vibes 🀣 #FolkloreFriday #MariLlwyd #needlefelt

A map of the River Thames with superimposed pie charts representing the proportion of human remains dating to particular periods found in certain locations along the river with Neolithic represented in black, Bronze Age in grey, Iron Age in brown, Roman in red, medieval in orange and post-medieval in yellow. Historic human remains (Roman, medieval and post medieval) are particularly concentrated in areas around Central London and the Isle of Dogs whereas prehistoric remains are more commonly found upstream and downstream of the modern city.

Fabulous new results from dating of human remains (mainly crania) dredged/excavated from the River Thames. 30 new radiocarbon dates! Reinforces previous findings by Richards Bradley and Schulting of overrepresentation of Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age remains.

The parallels are there because it was the same project. Obliterating any and all evidence for non- Christian matrilineal societies, be it in prehistory or in Africa.

Separating out my work and personal account, so here we go for our first #FindsFriday - partial rim of a late nineteen century teacup recovered from a housing terrace demolished during the 1960's slum clearances in Holyhead. Some lovely glimpses of working class life from the mid 1800s to mid 1900s
