I have suspected for awhile that we are already seeing the violence that runs downstream of (mostly) privileged (mostly) men with gambling addictions. And it will only get worse.
Everything will, in the end, have been about crypto and fossil fuels and we are mostly just casualties. Sigh.

Despite the recent turnaround, residents without housing are dying at a rate 46 times greater than that of the general Los Angeles County population. About 40 percent of these deaths are attributed to overdose.
This case is such a stark encapsulation of why immigrants rights' activists try to separate policing/jails from ICE: any arrest (no matter how low-level or how absurd the reason) can put you on ICE's radar and make you vulnerable to going into their custody.
In less than 1 week, Trump wasted $11.3 BILLION of your taxpayer dollars on the Iran war.
Instead that money could have:
- Restored SNAP to 4 million Americans
- Established universal pre-K education
- Built 100,000 units of housing

Good words of warning here. AI models are generally designed to read and incorporate (and, in a sense, believe) virtually everything they find online, with very few guardrails. The information can get divorced from its original source, context, & rebuttals or retractions. That's a really big problem
Read an article of a white woman wrongly arrested based on this. She recorded her conversation with the sheriff who freely, joyfully admitted that he didn’t care that she had proof she wasn’t the one Flock recorded. His glee triggered my PTSD. Cops are having a blast with this.

Thank you! At an event last night I said "If the word hope doesn't work for you try, 'Never fucking surrender.'" The word hope seems too sunny to a lot of people, but the heart of it as I'm interested in it is: we make the future in the present, if we show up, and that never surrender part.
This happened. The print interview was edited in ways that feel very jumpy, but I got to say some things. Like: Maybe changing the world is more like caregiving than it is like war. Too many people still expect it to look like war. [and then there's a crazy jump-cut w/out transition.]
This woman, US citizen living in Skokie, was detained at Ohare yesterday, taken to Broadview, then transferred to a detention facility in Wisconsin, now released. We know all this not because of DHS, who repeatedly denied that they even had her, but because her phone was pinging in those locations.
