Sheβs here! Thank you to NSERC RTI for our new flow cytometer!
We are seeking new PhD and MSc students interested in avian physiology and behaviour.
We are looking for new graduate students! Feel free to repost or pass along to prospective students
Great times at Brock University for the 7th Ontario Cell Biology Symposium with a big Trent cohort from labs Tobin, Robertson, and Yee #ocbs2025

Moth Night 2025: Mothing but the Best - a great article on moth night, hosted by friend and colleague Prof Sarah Jamieson whose limited term appointment was not renewed by Trent due to βbudget cutsβ. The article elaborates on that as well.
Thank you to NSERC for funding our RTI grant. We will now be able to purchase a desperately needed flow cytometer! Shoutout to my co applicants on the grant, Profs Robertson, Yee and Xenopoulos.
Researchers have been sneaking secret messages into their papers in an effort to trick AI tools into giving them a positive peer-review report

π₯12 years in the making!π₯
So excited our paper is finally out in Cell Reports!
Great collaboration with Dr. Robert Huber @ Trent U, funded by NSERC and CIHR.

Nono definitely not. They are p 8
Congratulations to Trent University undergrad thesis student Rachel Wamsteeker for receiving a CIHR Travel Award! She just shared her work at CPHA in Winnipeg. @metisnationon.bsky.social @icesontario.bsky.social
I find that itβs usually the case that the problem is never really determined. Iβve worked with those cells for so long itβs frustrating that theyβve given up on me
Ever thawed a vial of cells (C2C12 cells), had them attach and look just fine, but then after 1 passage they donβt attach and those that do gradually die? We canβt figure it outβ¦.tried new reagents already.
Dr. Stephanie Tobin received Trentβs prestigious Early Career Researcher Award! Dr. Tobin is an asst. professor in Biology, specializing in cellular aging and repair mechanisms. She is a collaborative researcher, working with other Trent faculty on aging and cell research. Congrats Dr. Tobin!
Got me!
Honoured to be a recipient of the 2025 Trent University Early Career Researcher Award! Thank you to my nominator and referees, my collaborators/colleagues and of course my students. www.trentu.ca/researchinno...
Looking forward to hosting Prof Sarah Dick at our seminar series tomorrow
I'm hiring a summer research assistant! Must be a Trent student eligible for TSWEP. See Trent job board Job ID 40082
Ok will do! I havenβt heard of that company so Iβll check them out too
It seems to be the most popular one based on people I know/papers.
Anyone have experience with the bioseb vs Columbus grip strength meters? The quotes are quite different.
Thanks TrentUResearch for a Research & Development Grant. With chemistry Profs Hendel & Stewart we will generate biomaterials for muscle repair
Two great in person talks at Trent yesterday: Western Prof Samantha Gateman on corrosion (including corrosion of copper intrauterine devices) and Laurier Prof Erin Leonard on a mix of projects related to carotid bodies, leptin, antidepressants and the effects on fish physiology!
A rite of passage: first cihr project grant done and results back! (Thank you to the reviewers for the helpful comments.) The RiT program certainly helped give me a sense of how things shake out but having a hard time interpreting the NOR.
Acadia is hiring an Assistant Professor, Tenure Track in Biopharma and Animal Physiology which closes February 3, see details here (and let me know if you have any questions about Acadia!)
