My profile picture honors Dr Wu Lien-teh & his pioneering work in Malaysia in 1910 on masking to prevent pneumonic plague. The French doctor Gérald Mesny who came to replace Dr Wu thought he knew better, refused to mask & died.

The most prominent cryptic lineage in the world right now is from Lincoln, Nebraska.

It's a B.1 infection (about 5 years old) that has been detected in their wastewater every week for about the last 18 months.

Friend of mine who I've spent a fair bit of time talking/teaching about masking reported back to me this weekend that they were at a conference last week & 1/2 the attendee's got sick & some had to go home & they didn't. Flew there, did the conference & flew home healthy. Simple.

Love to Glasgow tonight ❤️ please dig out some decent ffp2 masks if you're going to be in the centre for the next week (if you're not already masking). That amount of smoke will be causing breathing problems in healthy people, as well as babies, older people and those with respiratory conditions.

THIS. If you’re in central Glasgow tonight please close your windows; if you have to be out please wear the best mask you have available. If you can smell it, you’re at risk.

A thing that’s shocking me about the lack of coverage is air safety info. Hi, Glasgow folk, from a Southern Californian transplant: ash from old buildings is super gnarly. Please wear a respirator if you need to be near the scene.

Queen Street is still available, but it goes different places!

It’s a good time to chuck on a respirator mask, esp in health care settings, public transport & busy places (indoors and out). @covidactionnz.bsky.social have set up a couple of mask blocs around the country if you’re close to one and need some masks.

Covid-19 vaccines still protect us: How do we get the best out of them? International evidence shows that even during the Omicron era, Covid-19 vaccines continue to provide protection against infection, hospitalisation, death, and Long Covid, as well as improving outcomes...

The Public Health Communication Centre Aotearoa recommended in *2024* to extend eligibility for additional doses to younger age groups, especially those at occupational risk.

Could NZ media please follow up on why public health expert recommendations are not being followed, as a new wave ramps up 🫠

Tweet from Paula Scanlan that reads, "the number of people I still see wearing face masks in the year 2026 is genuinely concerning"

Tweet from Jerome Adams that reads, "Why do you care? Honestly asking. I thought the original mantra was “to each their own.” It sounds like you’re wanting to impose your priorities/belief systems on others while saying they shouldn’t impose theirs on you? What am I missing?

Also, beyond Covid – many people have found wearing a mask, has lowered their allergy symptoms- and pollen counts are rising this time of year. And Asian cultures have worn masks for years – are you bothered by Asians? Again honestly asking. 🤷🏽‍♂️"

That’s the professionalism and maturity he brought to the table.

It really burns me up how schools treat sick absences as a moral failure. Eugenics is so baked into our society that it is basically invisible to people who are healthy.

Besides, schools with their poorly ventilated classrooms are the primary culprit. The problem isn’t the children.

I'm about the right age to be a "longevity influencer", and focus on unusually long life or existence.

Interestingly, the building I am in is OLDER than the word "longevity".

But it's not as old as the word "virus".

Maybe longevity influencers will get around to viruses soon.

Faithfull grows sombre when shown a clip of herself at 60 declaring that she loved being that age, feeling healthy and philosophical about things. “Now I’m less philosophical. I hate what’s happened to me. Covid did this.”’

Respirators increase source control by (an) order(s) of magnitude, depending on fit.

They should be the default choice to protect patients from airborne viruses.

Well put. Some positive corollaries: online spaces have enabled me to—

✅ Join many meetings that I otherwise would've skipped because few are masking up;

✅ More easily take good notes that I can share with members who couldn't attend;

✅ More easily learn + remember people's names + pronouns.
