This is a veto rooted in cowardice, not the livelihoods of our residents.
As someone who spent every day trying to protect my community from ICE, to the point where I was personally assaulted, I’m so disappointed Mayor Frey vetoed this bare-minimum policy that would show that he could move beyond cuss words & take real action to provide material support for our neighbors.
History will look back on the leaders of Minneapolis and what they did to stand up for our residents during and after Trump’s invasion of our city.
Thank you to all of these orgs for showing us how quickly you will throw away your mission to evict residents if it messes with your money.
Minneapolis residents have subsidized you with millions in mutual aid and in turn you couldn’t wait 30 more days to throw the people you serve on the street.
Agate, Housing Stability Coalition, Avivo, Catholic Charities, Aeon, People Serving People, Project for Pride & living, Beacon, & Simpson Housing services all joined the Mayor’s press release for his veto of Pause Evictions Save lives.
These orgs officially stand on the wrong side of history.
I won’t be going back. Target has been a safe haven for ICE and that’s unforgivable. ICE continues to feel safest in the Quarry Target parking lot and using their handicap spots without intervention.
Don’t shop at Target, shop at immigrant owned businesses and co-ops instead.
Dear community, I am calling on Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to sign on Pause Eviction, Safe Lives.
If this policy does not pass, please expect to see our vulnerable community members enter the court process.
This is a powerful letter from Minneapolis Legislative Delegation asking Mayor Frey to sign Pause Evictions, Save Lives.
16/17 state legislators who represent Minneapolis signed onto this letter. It’s time for Mayor Frey to sign this ordinance and support our immigrant neighbors.
Minnesota Senate Minnesota Senate Building 95 West University Avenue Saint Paul, Minnesota 55155 Minnesota House State Office Building 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvo Saint Paul, Minnesota 55155 March 10, 2026 Dear Mayor Frey, As elected officials who represent Minneapolis, we ask you to sign Pause Evictions Save Lives (legislative file 2026-00099). Temporarily extending the pre-eviction notice from 30 to 60 days gives our residents extra time that is desperately needed to help find resources to prevent eviction. We've all been amazed by our shared constituents' resiliency and resolve in the face of ICE's illegal occupation of our City. Our residents banded together to protect one another, even raising millions of dollars in mutual aid funds to help keep their neighbors in their homes. It's our duty as elected officials to match the commitment in our residents to try and keep as many of our neighbors in their homes as possible. We look to Minneapolis to lead the way and are working on similar bills to extend pre-eviction notices statewide to help our neighbors. Signing the Pause Evictions Save Lives measure will bolster our efforts and reinforce our message to our colleagues about the way in which pre-eviction notices help prevent families from being evicted. We've been so proud of the work of the City of Minneapolis to respond to this unprecedented federal invasion. Your work to increase funding for immigration legal services, rental assistance, and creating a small business resiliency fund has shown how elected officials can meet the moment. Signing Pause Eviction Save Lives is the next step in helping our residents recover and ensure none of them are left behind. elected officials in the minnesota state senate and house representing minneapolis have sent a letter to mayor jacob frey urging him not to veto the pause evictions, save lives bill which would extend the notice period from 30 days to 60 to address the financial impact of the ICE occupation
I know it feels like the day-to-day intensity of the ICE occupation in Minnesota has calmed down, but there are so many lagging problems that need solving, right as people’s attention goes elsewhere. Financial assistance, like help with rent, and legal help for the detained. These horrors persist.
March 06, 2026 Attn: Minnesota Department of Transportation Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger, Central Avenue Improvement Team, Ricardo Lopez CC: State Senator Doron Clark, State Representative Sydney Jordan, Commissioner Irene Fernando Dear Central Avenue Reconstruction Decision Makers, We are writing to express the overwhelming desire of our community for an "Art Walk" along Central Avenue NE in Minneapolis. As many community members have shared, this has long been a vision that could finally come to fruition through the Central Avenue reconstruction project. The Northeast Minneapolis Arts District has been consistently named the top arts district in the nation due to the concentration of world-renowned local artists and visionaries in our neighborhood. An Art Walk along the main cultural corridor in Northeast would reflect our community's pride and identity as a vibrant, arts-driven destination. We understand that the project team is working to develop a corridor-wide Visual Quality Advisory Committee to facilitate aesthetic recommendations from interested individuals. While this is an excellent opportunity to allow for community input, we believe there is an opportunity for more robust discussions on how to solidify desires for widened pedestrian space and art pads at major intersections. The outpouring of support for the Art Walk provides an exciting opportunity for MnDOT and other partners to develop another destination point for our neighborhood and reflect the deep arts culture that is so widely celebrated. Not only would it provide aesthetic and cultural benefits, but it would also support traffic calming and mode-shift goals that contribute to the safety and the livability of our city. We look forward to your response and thank you for your continued work on this project. We are both committed to do the work with you to make this happen. Best
Last week Council Member Rainville and I sent a letter to MNDOT expressing our support for incorporating an “Art Walk” in the reconstruction of Central Ave. We have the #1 arts district in the country and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to forever incorporate it on Central Ave.
MPD's "duty to intervene" is meaningless when his police force worked through the last few months without a single intervention. He should just acknowledge there was no amount of lawlessness federal agents could've done that would have triggered an intervention.
I saw @bradtabke.bsky.social at a legislative happy hour tonight and his ass is still a tremendously decent and kind and smart guy. Shakopee can be a tough putt for a guy like that and I want him to win so I gave him a 100 bucks and you can help him out too here:

This weekend I had the honor of attending the Cedar Riverside Alliance’s first annual Iftar. I loved being able to celebrate all the community members who have worked so hard these last few months to protect everyone in Cedar Riverside.

Evictions are far more costly than 30 extra days and it’s not close. Especially when the 30 extra days will often result in landlords getting money they’re owed from their tenants anyways.
We still need people out there patrolling and pressuring government to do more to help our neighbors still suffering.
3 ICE vehicles were in a parking lot of a Columbia Heights restaurant on Central Ave this afternoon and there was a potential ICE vehicle by Pillsbury at pick up today.
A lot of politicians think it’s time to move on, but how can we move on when this isn’t even over.
This guy @elliottpayne.org has been out on the streets the past few months showing up for the people of Minneapolis. And he did the same tonight for our ride.
thank you council president elliott payne for keeping us safe on the emergency bike ride tonight, truly a leader 🫡

Who is the incredibly energetic man pedaling his butt off to block intersections and keep us safe on tonight's emergency DJ bike ride? It's Council President Elliott Payne. @elliottpayne.org

There was a serious house fire earlier this week on Polk street. Not only is the family suffering from the damage to their house, but early in the morning after the fire their house robbed and belongings were stolen. Let’s help our neighbors in Waite Park recover.

Minneapolis passed a pre-eviction extension yesterday which we now need Mayor Frey to sign so it can become law & give us more time to help people with their rent.
Keep reaching out to your local officials to ensure we’re standing up for policy that keeps families together & leaves no one behind.
El Taco Riendo dining room is back open and Kristi Noem is fired which means nature is healing.
At the Senate I’m continuing to push for rental assistance funding and for an extension of our pre-eviction notice which we need to help families stay in their homes.
Months of work and millions of dollars raised by thousands of our residents to help keep people in their homes comes down to the signature of one person. We’re calling on Mayor Frey to sign Pause Evictions, Save Lives. This policy temporarily gives residents 30 more days to help prevent evictions.

This photo is embarrassing right now it's gonna be even worse as time goes on.
We need your help bringing two pregnant women back home from ICE detention! Their loved ones and community are asking for financial assistance to support the family during these difficult times.

Ask him if he believes housing is a human right. We are not asking for the sun and the moon. Just a lifeline to help folks get back on their feet.
(from what I shared)
Minneapolis should be modeling to other cities what it means to show up for each other. We've seen that in people-powered mutual aid work, but the city can and must take action at a larger scale. "Pause Evictions, Save Lives" is smart policy. It is also the right thing to do.
