The Death of Nurul Amin Shah Alam Podcast links, and talking about Donald Trump in Myanmar in 2015.

Nurul Amin Shah Alam survived persecution in Burma only to die alone in Buffalo after Border Patrol agents left him outside in freezing temperatures.

A Rohingya refugee seeking safety should not have faced neglect.

Everyone deserves dignity and protection.

Next week, we’re launching a new campaign with the UU Solidarity Initiative to defend asylum-seekers’ ability to work.

A proposed rule would make it harder for people seeking refuge to support themselves while awaiting their cases.

Let’s talk about money.

At UUSC, 70% of our grants go to general operating support, so grassroots partners can decide how resources are used. 97% of our donors are everyday people, keeping us accountable to the communities we serve.

Human rights work should be community-driven and trustworthy.

The world’s highest court affirmed that governments have legal obligations to address the climate crisis. Now the UN General Assembly has a chance to act.

As one of the world’s largest historical emitters, the U.S. must support strong global cooperation and meaningful climate action. #ClimateICJAO

Today we remember Berta CΓ‘ceres, the Honduran Indigenous leader murdered ten years ago for defending her people’s land and water.

#JusticeForBerta remains unfinished. But her legacy lives on in the movements rooted in Indigenous sovereignty. #BertaVive #BertaCΓ‘ceres

When democracy is threatened, we rise together.

The SAVE Act would create new barriers to voting and could disenfranchise millions. This week, UU partners across the country are organizing national actions to defend voting rights and support immigrant communities.

There is no grace period for trans residents, and those who drive with their existing, accurate IDs may be subject to fines and other legal consequences.

Notably, there are special elections across various Kansas counties next Tuesday, and without a new ID, trans residents will not be able to vote.

They recently passed Senate Bill 244, recognizing only male and female sexes recorded at birth as legally valid gender markers.

The state issued letters to all trans residents demanding that they forfeit IDs and purchase new with inaccurate, state-recognized gender markers at their own expense.

Rest as Resistance: Honoring Haiti, Honoring OurselvesΒ  – UUSC A personal reflection by researcher HΓΌlya Miclisse-Polat on Haiti, memory, and the link between rest and resistance.

Haiti has long been treated as a site of labor: exploited, forced, revolutionary.

A nation marked by resistance and survival against systems designed to exhaust it.

And yet rest and wellness have always existed there. Not separate from resistance, but intertwined with it.

β€œThe first time I remember truly experiencing rest, I was waking up to the sound of roosters in Haiti.” 🌀️

Summer mornings felt fuller. Fresh coffee. Conversation before the day began. People still had work and responsibilities, but the rhythm was slower. Intentional.

β€œThis Black History Month, I am thinking about how our struggles are globally interconnected,” says UUSC researcher HΓΌlya Miclisse-Polat. 🌎

From Haiti to the U.S., Canada, and across the diaspora, Black communities face systems that demand our labor and undermine our well-being.
