AI is already creeping into election campaigns. NZ’s rules aren’t ready Months out from the next general election, political β€œAI slop” is spilling over social media feeds. Lessons from overseas could help electoral laws catch up.

#nzpol Heads up and pay attention Aotearoa NZ. There's going to be a deluge of dirty politics and lies thrown at us on social media this year. Please remember to go to party websites to read published policies. Do due diligence and watch out for each other. πŸ’ͺ

The word 'difficult' has been used to describe strong, vocal, righteous women for eons by those who view them as a threat to patriarchal norms.

I thought patriarchal conservatives believed in their incorrect version of "survival of the fittest" so what exactly is the problem here?

If you're not winning by your own eugenical rules you should be willing to accept the logical consequences of that as stated by your own belief systems, no?

12 Books By 12 Friends 2026 Edition

I read most of the books for last year and finished the last one earlier this month.

I’m currently reading 2 of these and another is a book club pick for next month.

This thread will be my accountability for this challenge.

There are at least 10 states proposing really cruel, detrimental anti-library, anti-literature bills this legislative session. It's only January 18, so these won't be the only ones.

Here's what they are, what they do, and how you can respond.

Also note the outside agitators fueling these.

CW: Suicide

Folk say "If only they had reached out" or suggest that if you're feeling suicidal to reach out to family or friends or even strangers, but in my experience when I was low/suicidal the sheer ability to reach out was beyond me

May I suggest if someone is pulling back, check they are OK?

It is also worth pondering the impact of this silence on our elections - not so far away, now.

The erosion of the media landscape prior to and post 2016 has been a huge contributing factor to the erosion of the US.
The erosion of the media landscape here is creating consequences now that will echo.

One thing that demonstrates how eroded NZ media has become since late 2023 is the almost universal lack of coverage of the Healthy Futures (Pae Ora) Amendment Bill, which recently closed submissions.

This Bill is one of the most consequential to impact New Zealand’s public health system to date.

I don’t recommend this one at all. Thinking about it now, I barely remember anything, including the characters names. It’s easily forgettable and easy to put down and forget about it.

1 of the guys on the cover has an extra finger which gives me the ick, since it was never mentioned in the story

I didn’t notice that. After looking at the cover, I thought it gave off weird vibes but I couldn’t see anything wrong with it, so I just thought it was me. Thank you for pointing this out. I don’t always see or notice some things. I’ll trust my gut next time.
