PS: I'm a STEM Professor
Many moons ago Asst Prof in mtg with Provost at [Uni I worked at]:
Me: I'm begging you not to retrench the Classics Dept.
Him: "How many Grad students you grad in the last 4y"
Me: "3"
Him: "thats same # as entire Dept in the last 4y"
Me: "But our entire legal system is based on Roman Law".
My account seems to have become "Classic Rock Movie Review Corner"
GO AND SEE "Becoming Led Zeppelin".
Be warned: this movie is not a sensationalist thingy about the Rock Star days (I'd pay to see that though)... it's a retrospective on their formative years and getting together. Great movie.
So... I've been thinking. I went to see the Bob Dylan movie recently at the cinema. It was amazing... and then I got to thinking, if Bob's the US Poet Laureate... then what about this guy?

Yah well, when I grow up I want to be Edith Menten...
Hey Sarah, apropos of pretty much nothing - really enjoy your posts. AND you remind me of a Pathologist that taught me to section slides and gave me a recipe for counter stain from Germany, (Mayer 1903, takes 3 mo to cure on the bench before use) in the 1990s. Her name was Michelle McAnulty-Smith.
Define Irony... could it be, perhaps, publishing the highest impact paper of my career after resigning my Professorship? Many thanks to my incredible MSc Student Austin Zimmer for hanging in there (it was under review for a year)...
Thank you! I did, in fact, LOL. Also, yes it was weird... some people have nothing better to do I guess - SIGH internet.
It's great to be back! I've been busy with a job change (**LOVING** my new position for PCFC)... but it was also due to a horrible person (poorly cut cheap suits, bad shoes, terrible attitude) stalking my social media. Twat. Anyhooo, I'm back!
Hey all,
its been a while... in the latest "unpronounceable drugs names" meme:
Isavuconazonium Sulfate
Its an anti fungal - which is pretty typical, since trying to find a mycologist these days is about as hard as pronouncing this drug name.
Trade name "Cresemba" is more manageable.
Hey Scott - you're here... I've been missing for a while - new job and all. Hope you are well.
Hello peeps, it's been a while.
I'm doing good, how are you?
This month's randomly *terrible* drug name:
Talimogene Laherparepvec
(trade name "Imlygic)
It's used for melanoma.
🧪🩺
AAAAARRRGHHH.
In this month's version of terrible drug names I give you:
"cretostimogene grenadenorepvec"
Wonderful area of the world, I've spent a lot of time there. I believe the periodical lives on in some form as the Northern Advocate.
Inspired by @karenpercy.bsky.social, I'll be posting something positive every day until Xmas. Been really down on academia lately, and it's time to remember the good bits:
Day 1: My colleagues are creative, intelligent and insightful. I learn from them often.
Ha ha, a bunch of the people in my employer's HR follow me on the bird app... *initmidating*. Fortunately, they're hopeless enough to not have been invited here.
Could be worse...
"OMG I *NEED* a lawyer after joining bluesky" 😉
MEEEEEEEEP!
Anything from 30 mins to 6 hrs depending on complexity and quality
Yeah, me too and I don't even know you!
ha ha, do you realize that you're comparatively rare... there's a genetic component to not liking brassica vegetables and tasting them as "bitter" ... not so for beets and bell peppers... just as well there's nurture as well as nature hmm? ;-)
PS And so what if it is... hirer I work I was recently asked to stop saying "you guys" to mixed gender groups because: DEI/EDI or something
It means gentile, and its not always pejorative (but occasionally, yeah)
YAY... I thought I was the only person that uploaded lectures to CANVAS as numbered files... (sorry about lecture #4 [a and b] though, very relatable)
You deserve a do-over (not that you *needed* it, but I get it). Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.
Thank you :-)
Thanks
Got Q: anybody else have cognitive dissonance with still posting over on the bird app as well as here?
Like do I double post, or selectively post some things some places or...
Despite that platform circling the drain, there still seems to be a bit more engagement than here. Hmmmm
A brief rant on the criticality of routes of administration and bioavailability:
Phenylephrine *does* work but INTRANASALLY. It has very low bioavailability orally.
to FDA: 👍 withdraw oral forms.
Also 👍 to the profs in FL for getting FDA to apply basic 2nd yr pharmacology. 🧪
Replying to be added.
