The amount of times I’ve asked why no one called me and gotten, “oh, we figured you were busy with the kids!” is staggering.
I actually know why… and the answer is misogyny:) I got mother-tracked HARD in my hometown. I love it here, mostly, but yowza, we are not as progressive as we think.
Louisville, why don’t you appreciate your local artists properly? I’ve had universities around the world (including an Ivy) offer to fly me put and pay me to lecture and perform.
Last week someone in Louisville offered me a chance to play a short opening set for another local musician.
I had no idea someone was talking about me on a podcast 😳😳😳😳 But it feels very nice to be appreciated for music.
Reminder that live performance regulates the nervous system, so don’t be a meanie to artist friends who tell you about their shows. Paying the cover charge is way cheaper than your prescriptions/therapy & you get endorphins, dopamine, and a nervous system reset. Art fucking matters.

Being off the estrogen-blockers I was on for five years is … incredible. I just sat through an entire movie. I have been … sleeping?!? My family is no longer always wrong.

The world is on fire. I’m doing my best. One thing I’ve learned is that I can bring a lot of joy and education to people when I use my platform to walk about the psychology of music. Art is powerful.

I am enjoying the fact that I have been posting videos about whatever I want to talk about, and it’s been … good for my career! Decades of music folks telling me to “tone it down” and “stop being your quirky self” does a number on the soul. It’s nice to have some wins being myself.
My 13-year-old took a sick day today … and by lunchtime he had taught himself the mandolin part of STONEHENGE! (prior to this morning, he did not play the mandolin🤣)

I have never understood why health care costs haven’t sparked the revolution in this country. But my family’s premiums alone next year will be almost $30k and the deductible another $10k. I do not know how we will do anything except pay for health care and work.
Played a super fun gig last night with Dan Bern, but played through an arthritis flare-up in my finger joints and have been paying for it all day today 😭😭😭
