This would be a great time for a real leftist party to emerge in BC. Conservatives in shambles and the NDP are alienating their base… let’s gooooo.

The competitive market should be treated like a privilege. If companies cannot compete as the ideal dictates; that is, to bring prices down and create better standards/innovation, they should become nationalized public corporations with profit going back to the people.

We should save Canada Post by defunding the RCMP.

I was thinking about this movie while I finished reading capitalist realism by mark fisher. Mainly I was considering the nightmarish situation he probably faced when he got out, job prospects, education insufficiently, just the raw capitalist experience as a virtual alien.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Covered a lot of this in my MA and now monograph.

AI is not designed to answer questions, it is designed to generate an answer. It’s going to take a lot of people a long time and a lot of wasted money to understand how different those two things are.

Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching.

Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

A little interruption from the elections and doom cycles from down south. It’s pics like these that make we want to start printing again.

Science is so laden with bias that just bursts at the seams when you trace it back with Christianity and Platonism. Positioned next to TEK it becomes so clear where and why those biases arise.

I keep catching strays from "technology is neutral" people, so let's set things straight.

1) Technology is not neutral, especially the subset of technology called "algorithms"
2) The form-factor that makes a technology into a tool is not neutral
3) How tools are productized is not neutral

This thread is 👌👌 and exactly what I wrote a book on, but how the technology of AI only arises because of Christian-Platonic asceticism and the idea of human inferiority. It’s a technology overflowing with bias and dangerous assumptions about humanity.

Agreed. There needs to be a resurgence of political discussion that recognizes that every Canadian political party is a right of centre party that doesn’t take decolonization seriously.

This is what has been scaring me this whole night. I don’t think CBC mentioned this once.

I’m guilty of this in my recent book. However, I made a point to describe exactly what I meant by it. In my case it was basically “Platonic-Cristian culture”. Over the course of a book saving those extra words paid off…

In my undergrad my fave prof taught one called Death, Desire, and Art in Continental Thought. We covered people like Nietzsche, Artaud, Rousseau, Kristeva…
That and the single courses dedicated to one thinker were best. We did Sartre, Nietzsche, Foucault, Kant.

This is what a leader looks like.

The NDP need to shift left, hard and fast. If they want to work with the Liberals, which might be needed to subvert a con majority, they need to capitalize on that way more.

Lots of uproar and confusion about how it will be possible for Elon to sort through the millions of federal workers emails about their jobs from the weekend. Obvious answer? AI. Which should scare workers. We’re pairing neoliberal austerity with techo-monarchy/oligopoly. This should surprise nobody.
