What do you personally use to learn/grow so you can innovate your craft in design?
I chat with quite a lot of folks in my discipline, and I've learned that most people play other games to learn and grow. I personally like to read a lot of books and published papers!

#GDC is happening and I'm not going. Instead, I'm going to yap about vidya games the entire week on Bluesky, hello.
Why are children allowed to engage with the PowerPacks ecosystem on GameStop? Both IRL and online?
There's no age verification to gamble online for GameStop PowerPacks & they've set up one of the most callously designed monetization strategies with horrible slot RTPs.

(2) we add in the additional gambling elements people add into mix due to scarcity with Pokemon cards through medians like Whatnot.
It's actually insane how bad it is. π
It's so interesting to me that there's such strong pushback against cosmetics in live ops models ( or variations of gacha mechanics in freemium games ) but then trading cards exist.
I've been casually engaging in the Pokemon TCG community and, dear lord, pulling cards is already rough... THEN (1)
In the same vein of my previous Bluesky post, I yap on this medium article about Pokemon Black being an example of bad economy design (referencing their 'character exp' system as the resource in question).

I had a really interesting design question asked to me and I was curious about how other people would answer it.
What would you define as "Good" Economy Design? What about "Bad" Economy Design?
What do those two look like to you?
Keep in mind that there is no right answer.

Hi Mort! I wanted to ask about the rules regarding how emblem augments work in TFT. For example, is there a way to increase the probability of a trait augment to appear on 3-2? How do the odds work for 4-2?
Thank you!!
Flying into DC on Inauguration Day has been one of the ideas I've had of all time.
Thank you @riotmortdog.bsky.social.
This is literally the best set. Yoinked the Easter Egg (AFTER 9 Conqueror AND 3* Mordekaiser) in Emerald.

If you work on a Freemium Game, do you define a Minnow as a user that spends very little or a user that spends very little - or spends nothing (placing them as a non-spender OR a spender)?

The exec was hilariously out of touch and really didn't understand who actually played our game.
Keeping it vague - but on one product, we had an executive who told us that a product we were working on had 0 chance & wouldn't resonate with our demographic on the product. We spent over 8 months escalating and pushing until we got approval.

(1) Expanding on Ocarina of Time, Windwaker gave me what I'd feel like was a massive sense of adventure in the same breath. Instead of playing the Ocarina, I played similar beats with the Windwaker - but also, being able to have this sense of massive exploration in this ridiculous world & using a -

- especially "massive worlds", I have often historically compared them to the Ocarina of Time standard. Though, I think that's changed in recent years to a different game I'll mention later.
- for different effects in Ocarina of Time, as well as exploring the incredibly in-depth story in a world that gave off an incredible illusion of being so massive... I think is what really sold me to this game. I was incredibly young while playing it and - often times when playing new games -
(1) I'll be honest. I forgot I was doing this. So that's on me. Ocarina of Time, I think, versus a lot of other games that I've had that influenced me career-wise or through morals... I think Ocarina of Time exposed me to my perception of beauty. The gameplay dynamic of learning different songs -

(1) Prior to this game, I hadn't finished a full RPG game since I was maybe 12 or 13 years old - just because I'd been so addicted to playing games that were ongoing like MMORPGs & League of Legends. I knew the series - but I wasn't too familiar because I hadn't played the previous God of War -
