A proper bust.
When non-football people have their hands on important levers at football clubs....

Aside from being older than him ALL THE TIME.
Fargo is 30.
Beggars belief that people think of the Coens as misanthropic & cold when they end a film as touchingly as this.
(But yes, they do think the world is full of very dumb, venal & greedy people but *gestures everywhere* they have a point)

Also Jimmy Hill and that bloke from Blue Rondo A La Turk.
Which means me and Mrs Nige were in a movie theatre in New Orleans right about now 30 years ago, watching Fargo's first screening.
Then, 25 years later, I wrote a book about it.
Here's an example. I had no inkling that the words 'rotisserie chicken' would appear in today's notebook. They're as far removed from the book's subject as it's possible to be.
Editing Adele's book was an eye-opening thrill.
I love being away doing book research. Every day a new notebook. Who knows what words will fill it by the end of the day?
What a mental second half of rugby.
Annoying old shineheads are the best.
Signed, an annoying old shinehead.
Probably say this every year, but if you ever have the slightest inclination to try watching cycling on TV, absolutely the best place to start is with today's Strade Bianche race. And this year you get to watch the most exciting young rider in the world, whose name is genuinely pronounced Sex Ass.

I have just become a great-uncle.
Publication day! My new book, "The MbappΓ© Project", is officially out today. It is not a biography, but an attempt to understand and explain how a football prodigy was built into a global star by his entourage and by himself, retaining control every step of the way.

I have decided to honour World Book Day by dressing up as the author Nige Tassell.
His show at the Brixton Academy in '91/'92 remains top of the tree for me. He toyed with us, coming out solo with his guitar for a song or two. Oh, is this going to be it? Then the curtain rose on a white-suited salsa orquesta who were sensational. A Latinised Burning Down The House? Yes please!
