very cool take on '' zombie survive'' game. mix of classic campaign ''find item to do that thing'' with wave style ''mercenaries'' mode of resident evil.

Honestly pseudo-poetically flirting with these ideas in our current era is the strongest possible signifier that you're not worth engaging with on this topic. I haven't blocked you but you are muted now. Look to the DAIR institute, Emily Bender et al and re-evaluate.

A close cropped image of a woman with long greenish hair in a leather leotard, dragon wings emerging from her head and her back. It’s Morrigan Aensland from Capcom!

Ultimately AI exposes the central conceit of infinite growth: a lot of β€œjobs” don’t actually produce anything of value. The tasks AI are β€œgood at” are ones where everyone involved is only interested in checking the β€œdone” box on a task nobody really cares about or understands in the first place

I'm gonna repeat my comment.

Talking about nonexistent "super intelligent" machines is like talking about the Cookie Monster rather than corporations creating real things causing harm. A non existent machine god bringing apocalypse or utopia is a framing that is harmful. Period.

But are the two companies really so different at the end of the day? Ed Zitron, a prominent AI commentator and tech PR specialist, argues there’s little daylight between them β€” and that the disagreements are trifling, at best.

β€œThey are very similar companies doing very similar things with very similar goals, which is to enrich their executives and get as much media attention as possible,” Zitron told DFD.

He pointed out that Anthropic and OpenAI have both lobbied for export controls on semiconductors, and similarly pushed the idea that the U.S. needs to boost the AI sector to compete with China. They advocate for safety rules at various times, some of which have caught on in state legislatures, though Zitron contends that there’s little possibility that those efforts will gain much traction on the federal level given the hesitance around tech regulation in the current administration.

Zitron said, β€œDario Amodei and Sam Altman are functionally the same guy β€” they just look a bit different.”

Nice of Florida to provide an official list of demonstrably true things.

Also smallcaps on a header is grounds for immediate ejection from any education related field. Appalling choice.

Over 50% of game developers now think generative AI is bad for the industry, a dramatic increase from just 2 years ago: 'I'd rather quit the industry than use generative AI' The latest GDC survey also found that managers are more likely to use generative AI than their employees.

"Our standing rule is: If one of us brings up using GenAI in any of our work, then it's safe to assume we've been assimilated by The Thing and should be burned alive by Kurt Russell," said a game design consultant in the US.

one of my strongest beliefs is that we're in our situation right now bc some of the most prominent talking heads (e.g. joe rogan, andrew schulz) are learning about politics in their 40s and 50s, instead of their teens and early 20s, and we have to go along for the ride as they learn basic things
