My favorite
Much to consider
Hear hear!
Best film of the year, easily, for me
Bernard King
The more we click on this NYT bullshit, the more of this bullshit they will produce
Yeah, those PLVs can be rough!
Jared Leto was robbed
Hell yeah. If she's not my literal lady on-screen goat, then it's damn close.
The pre-playoff appetizer moments are some of the best things going.
Matt is goofing, I presume, but I nevertheless truly cannot stand this expression! Paul Pierce banked in a prayer and it was an elite in-the-moment line to sidestep the luck accusation after a big playoff win. But it sounds oh so dumb to say for a normal game winner.
I watched both recently! She crushes both roles, masterclass stuff. I find Tรกr to be easily a better film than both but big fan of all three, particularly Notes, which was a first-time watch. (Best Dame Judi work I've ever seen too!)
Y'all folk who used dial-up internet should not be so readily adopting so many newer online words into your regular vocabulary
Is Tรกr the best film and performance of Cate Blanchett's career? And if not then why?
Wait til you try dino nuggets
Trey Gilgeous-Alexander, I'm hearing
Many such cases

Bigfoot erasure.
Still can't believe nobody has done it
Oh, yeah. Them folk are crazy. Oppenheimer is one of the most ambitiousluly shot and structured "mainstream" films of the century. A director who takes lots of chances went harder than he's ever attempted to make art. Kings Speech is a dull Ted Talk, like all the Seabiscuits and Blindsides before it
The move to 10 was a big part. But it even took that quite a while to land on a good formula of 1-2 blockbusters, 1-2 foreign excellence and the right mix of big directors hitting plus high-ambition greatness. The balance and overall Best Picture catalog is high level. Last ~70 is like 50 smokers.
Yeah. It's great but subjective views and winners aren't the point. Every year still has a movie I think sucks (Elvis, Licorice Pizza, Hamnet). But past was littered with nonsense like The Imitation Game, American Sniper, Seabiscuit and War Horse that were just dull, safe nonsense. Very rare now.
I love a useful exchange of views
No way I'm falling for this argument
The cool part about the whole economy is that it's decided by a bunch of rich weirdos who panic sell and buy stocks whenever they see a single headline in a newspaper
No Other Choice and Sorry, Baby are the two big omissions for me this year in terms of unrecognized greatness. But there is always subjectivity. And the days are long gone of eyerolling at major adoration for "important" drivel like The King's Speech, Green Book, Blindside and Million Dollar Baby.
I'm doing it constantly!
This has been true for quite awhile. Not every nomination is great. That would be an impossible expectation. But especially for people who don't watch many movies... You would do pretty good at the cinema, dating back to like 2019, by simply trying to watch all the best picture nominees each year.
