For Those Unaware: The Minnesota high school boys basketball state tournament is not next week. It will be held March 24-28 at Target Center and Williams Arena (consolation games at Concordia-St. Paul). Hey hoopheads, take a week off.
Watching Minnesota girls state basketball on TV, seeing Stewartville assistant coach Carlie Wagner on the bench at Williams Arena. The former All-State star from New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva is included in my upcoming book, "Prepville, Minnesota."

So very sad to learn of the death of Dave Wicker, longtime coach and administrator in Minneapolis Public Schools and a gentleman of the highest order.
Is it weird that in 20-25 years of covering the Minnesota boys state hockey tournament, I never once walked next door to the Hockey Expo at the Rivercentre? I was working and never had enough time. Five weeks of state tournaments are great fun but can be a bit of a grind.
"The talented Corbu Stathes is the Voice of the Tommies and his broadcast is piped into the restrooms and concourse. The great Mike Grimm is the Voice of the Gophers, but you do not hear his perfect pipes unless you bring a radio to the game."
Don't worry, everyone is OK but I have to say this publicly: The emergency department at Fairview Southdale Hospital is unbelievably excellent.

With the Pac 12 Conference in the dust, I'm remembering my days in Phoenix when Pac 12 schools ASU, AZ, USC, UCLA, Cal and Stanford played a round-robin baseball schedule. They were known as the Six Pac. Look it up.
