To be fair. I love it. I'm more of a NE girl (it's in my blood). But damn. Brag about all the sun but it's all atmospheric river this and June Gloom year round.

This morning I came home from my overnight shift at my paid job just to go right in to a day of mando "new hire orientation" for my internship.
Which included a joke about interning not being exploitation bc it's an internship.

Typing it, it feels selfish. But I'm working in two acute psychiatric settings for the pay of one, and that has to be enough. It has to be. There is no "maybe" it's enough. It has to be. Because I am already panicked pacing around a house of cards. One more awful news story and it falls. /fin
Right now, for a lot of people, there's no amount of exposing ourselves to the ongoing horrors that's going to fix this. There's nothing more we can do when we're already stretched so damn thin. Sometimes the best and only way of fighting we have is surviving. 5/
And I think, especially in mental health fields or even other helping professions, we need to stop demonizing ourselves and our colleagues for prioritizing our own wellbeing. There's no awards for burning out first or hardest. So why do we feel like we have to? 4/
When my spouse deploys, I block all news from that area. When my oldest left for college, I realized pretty quick that keeping up on the news for the city they're in is bad for my anxiety. Is it the best approach to completely ignore? I don't know. I do know it helps me. 3/
We're all MSW students in our field practicum. Which means: we are not paid for our practicum time, we are balancing paid work so we can survive, our lives, pets, families, maybe some self care. And many of us are working with acute patients or in crisis work. 2/
One of my classmates asked our prof last night about avoiding the news. Does that make them a terrible person, how do they balance that, the thought that we should remain informed and feeling bad if we avoid it, etc. I have thoughts.

Home from my overnight (paid) shift by 8am. Slept for ~5 hours. Got up and did errands, making dinner, coursework, and as much else as would fit into a handful of hours bc now I must sleep to go to my (unpaid) day shift intern site in the morning. Some day off, eh? 😅

I am hard of hearing, live in a city, and enjoy a variety of crime related shows (currently on a comfort re-watch of Burn Notice).
This means, though, that there is a daily game of, "Is that the show? Or the neighborhood?" for sounds like sirens.
Next time I need to say “fuck you” to someone, I’m just sending them this picture instead.
Idk how I ended up with so much embroidery in my feed, but seeing it brings me so much joy... And makes me consider picking up a new hobby.

Idk if I can truly provide any in depth commentary on the halftime show (just watched on YT), but I will say it was incredible. Spouse and I are still talking about the symbolism and references, and we were already pointing things out while watching. That was such an amazing performance to witness.
