I really like the way that The Electrum Archive does it with weapon speed checks.
Vaults of Vaarn 2E has an alternate method in the latest beta where you have to roll a d20 and get over your current encumberance, which I haven't tried out yet but sounds promising.

My books from the Down Among the Dead crowdfund arrived today, and they're gorgeous. @limithron.bsky.social has delivered another 100 proof rum soaked chest of gold with these.
I've been running a Pirate Borg campaign for almost a year now, it's some of the best RPG I've ever played.

The Black Sword Hack if you want something in the sword and sorcery genre. If you're OK getting weird and venturing into science fantasy than absolutely look into Vaults of Vaarn.
