Yet again, as the media is focused on a single conflict, our Labour government reminds us that other areas are suffering from instability & conflict.
The development minister has just visited the DRC &announced £13m for support for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence in the country.
Fuel Duty has been frozen, and therefore cut, for 15 years in the U.K, turbocharging transport emissions and starving local councils of grant funding to repair our crumbling roads.
It’s been a disaster and it’s beyond embarrassing that any mainstream party would campaign to maintain the freeze.

As journalists working today many of us are taught to recognise disinformation when we see it and fight back against it.
Unfortunately there are some who willingly seek it out and put it on their front pages. A disgrace to the profession.
I’ve rarely heard more stupid questions on TV than the ones being asked by Paddy O’Connell on Newsnight … free pass after free pass to Reform and the Greens and cynical cheap shots to Labour
I have occasionally taken this approach… something about this Range Rover led me to believe doing this might not be sensible.
Yup. Happens all the time especially on this piece of road. But this was particularly egregious… the scumbag driving the car didn’t alter their speed or direction and I had about a second to dive for cover or be crushed.

Near my house there’s a 100m stretch of road where parking on both sides means there’s only room for one vehicle … I entered the stretch first on my bike when a Range Rover entered the other end a couple of seconds later and just drove right at me … 😳😡🤬
SUDS an important part of the permanent pedestrianised/cycleway treatment of the Dulwich Village/Calton Avenue junction in Southwark. Lots elsewhere in the borough too.
A reasonably balanced article but it only hints at the elephant in the room - that cars fill every kerbside & consume so much public space it is difficult to implement alternatives.

On the contrary regulation *enables* innovation… FM radio is a good example- the creation of broadcast standards led to an massive increase in the number of radio stations in the USA which in turn created the music industry…

This is exactly why I quit journalism and found a year long stint at Toady depressing & frustrating. We can’t fix Britain till we fix the media.
The then government cancelled the second part of the Leveson Inquiry in 2018. It planned to look at the relationship between the media and the police.
Just had a Green Party leaflet through my door. I’ve read fairy stories that have a better connection to reality and Tory Party leaflets that are more honest.
These people are like Reform, only without the racism.
