I accept empty half-hugs from faces I do not recognize, as bile threatens to rise in my throat. I catch the gaze of a man with whom I once did wretched things. I smile politely to his mother. He does the same to mine. We do not speak, though I know he will text later. A self-righteous man yells from a stage that I am unclean, not worthy if I dare lament. That he holds the secret to my salvation. Never mind the fact I was once baptized within these walls. When he lifts his hands, I am unsure if it is meant for God, or the lighting crew. Certainly neither are listening. (Cut off before the last stanza)

(Last stanza) I miss my home church, less than a tenth the size of this one. Where there is no yelling man, only the soft voice of a gentle woman. Where lament is welcomed, and there is room for real. Room for questions. Where pride flags line the walls, and a transgender child helps serve communion. Where there is laughter and joy and coloring pages. My God looks like love, not facades and cruelty. I do not see my God here.

I think it's just the general vibe everywhere rn

It's mostly when stress spikes astronomically above your baseline (or at least ime)

Normally I'm pretty good at learning languages, but one time in high school I tried to teach myself Norwegian and the only word I still remember of it is turtle.

To be fair I was also learning Spanish and ASL so my brain was busy
